Shearer Also in Barbados
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 23:40

Ex-England skipper Alan Shearer is currently on holiday in Barbados, according to the Daily Mail, the same Caribbean island where Blues owner Marcus Evans has been this week. Earlier this evening, TWTD revealed that Shearer had been interviewed for the vacant position as Town manager.

After Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to Derby County, Town assistant manager Chris Hutchings told the press that Evans was in Barbados.

I'm same as u Sindre. I am not really sure! He has played under Sir Bobby and I think he would make us play good football.. young I guess and has enough experience in game

Bobby was and still is my hero...he was blue and white through and through but we all live in the old days.... which was a long time ago.....we need to move on from that and breed a new guy who would die for his club instead of being there for the money!

I guess Evans went there to see him, so in my mind there can be no doubt its Shearer's to turn down.

My big problem with this and I am seeing a slight pattern, strikers/attack minded midfielders have not worked out for us I.e no concept of defence

Mmmmm This would be a massive gamble as well as a massive publicity pull. We would need a senior assistant... As far as blue and white blood and black and white blood come on when PJ started he had no links with town but came to love the club the town the people ok it didnt work but any manager as long as they are not the dark lord who shall not be mentioned takes a managers job they will bleed that teams colours... Does any one take a job just to be sacked.....

And!!!!!!! sorry punch_bowl you are way of the mark on Sir Bobby he was always a very proud Geordie and loved Newcastle.. It was the team he supported , but he loved his job he loved Ipswich and above all he loved football a true gent, a true pro, a true legend and I must admit I would not be able to manage any club but Ipswich but how he must of hated playing against newcastle to plot your own teams downfall lol

No. No. No. No. No.
For heavens sake no management experience, no coaching experience, not in the game as a player for yonks...
Get a grip please, just because he is a name does not make him a good manager.
We need a people manager who can bring confidence back to the squad.
We are bottom of the league and Shearer couldn't do it for Newcastle why can he suddenly do it for us?
Get real.

Don't like Shearer as a pundit and seems a bit of a sh*t head as a person. no managerial experience except getting Newcastle relegated! NOT what we need at all! I originally said Terry Butcher but i'm swaying towards Billy Davies now, bit more of a motivator and proven good manager.

I will get negative views but I'm a bit bemused by peoples reactions. Yes he is a big name and doesnt have much managerial experience but you cannot just instantly compare him to Roy Keane, they are different people, Shearer would have his own ideas, he may get a decent defensive coach in, he on the face of it seems more approachable. Jewell was approachable Keane wasnt, Jewell couldnt get us defending well and our defence with Keane wasn't that bad. Maybe Shearer is that middle man who can make us balanced. I enjoy all the speculation and have said who I would like but I am not going to write comments about who we shouldn't get, because in reality I haven't a clue how things are going to turn out for whoever gets put in charge. I was upbeat when we got Keane and he didn't succeed so I am not going to pass judgement on anyone.

I'm wary of this one. Partly because of his inexperience as a manager, and failing to inspire an already doomed and dysfunctional Newcastle side doesn't count as either experience or failure in my eyes. Partly because of his role on MotD, which is scarcely scintillating or incisive - given the choice I'd rather have Hansen, although he has no interest in management I know.

Yes, he's a name. Yes, he'd command the players respect. However, tactical ability during a game? Coaching ability? Knowledge of the lower leagues (or Championship for that matter)?

I still feel we need someone who's not an experiment, not cutting their teeth and, probably, not a big name.

arguments against: have you heard his motd analysis? he is hilariously clueless. it won't happen, it would be a staggering choice in the context. his newcastle days were short and disastrous enough to not be offered the job.

Clegg stated clearly that it has to be someone they trust who has a "proven" ability to get the team out of the current mess and take it forward.

Alan Shearer is not the guy. Hat on standby, ready to eat.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Inexperienced version of Paul Jewell. A pundit like Roy Keane.
Break the cycle of big name numptys and get a solid guy in like Billy Davies.

Instinct tells me that Shearer isn't a candidate and was advising Evans.

Part of me thinks.. you've had your say as a pundit. You've talked the talk.. Now walk the walk.. It could turn out to be a very good move. If it does happen, lets just hope Mr Shearer isn't walking us to league 1

I would hope not. Would remind me of the Keane appointment and seeking of high profile person without a lot of management experience ... too much of a gamble in the present situation. We need someone with experience and knowledge of what it takes to firstly survive (sadly) and then get us out of this division. The person will need the fans to unite behind them and the players to up their level of commitment. The persons first task should be to get someone with expertise in defense in and then take it from there ........ if it goes well we could be up to mid table in January .......

The guy is a berk of the highest order. If ME goes for him then we are in for more of the same dross.
This must just be a PR stunt surely?
Why would you interview him and waste his and your time if your looking for a manager with experience?
Stillthere's hope for all you computer game heroes if this is the amount of management experience they are considering.

Brockleyblue.... you forget Joe Royle....I really question anyones Knowledge who think shearer could be the man to take this club forward, Hes done nothing in management, " NOTHING" ...... There is a disjointed mess to be sorted out....we dont need an apprentice, do we , we need the real deal......COYB
