Curbs Would Talk to Town
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 11:14

Former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has said he would talk to the Blues if they wanted to speak to him. The 54-year-old is understood to be someone Town owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg see as a potential boss at Portman Road.

Curbishley told Sky Sports News: “I am available, obviously, and if they want to talk to me, I would talk to them.”

He says he’s surprised to see that his name is already up there amongst the favourites: “I am amazed when you look at the betting and I am up there with the frontrunners.

“Ipswich have been inundated with people who would like that job and I think they have a very important decision to make.

“The last two or three years have been tough as they have been in decline a little bit,” he added. “They have to take their time, sift through the people that are available and come up with the right answer.”

Curbishley’s long-time assistant Mervyn Day, who is currently working as a scout for Fulham, was at Tuesday’s home game against Derby and has also been at Portman Road for previous games this season.

Meanwhile, Town are remaining tight-lipped regarding developments on their search for a new boss with Clegg having said earlier in the week that he is hopeful a new man could be in place before next Saturday's game at Birmingham.

Looks like Curbishley not going to be the next Town Manager

Got as much character as a brick all but i'd 10000% take him over Shearer or Megson! Surely has to have an interview at the very least. Just hope we take our time and don't rush it and make the wrong choice. COYB

There is no point trying to predict what this club will do..... it's an impossible task.

Curb's or McCarthy for me :)

Well at least Curbs has backed down from stating he would only manage a Premiershp Club and I personally would not be against his appointment although McCarthy is my first choice. Every team should start its rebuilding from the back and we have not had a decent defence for years now. I am sure McCarthy will put this right and Curbs who is meticulous with his planning is a good organiser. Both have had great experience in the Championship and know the ropes so will be happy with eirher of the aforementioned.
On McCarthy he comes accross as dour but at Millwall when he was Manager several years back I spoke to him in the players lounge and he came accross as a thoroughly decent chap.

So he hasn't actually applied for the job. The club have to go to him. Despite this, I do think he is the most suitable candidate with the best CV

Wouldn't mind this on the basis that he brings in someone like Matt Holland to mentor as a future coach/manager - a longer term view for once. And was Mervyn Day really seen at Portman Road.....

Wow, can you just feel the enthusiasm!

No brainer for me as are Billy Davies & Burley...come on Marcus get one of these 3 in.

Do NOT let Megson or Cotterill anywhere near Portman Road please!!

A smashing fella but we just had one of those. Personally I'd prefer someone who is yet to manage in the premier league but is on the way there.

Someone should (or rather should not) tell him you have to apply to be considered

If he hasnt been spoken to ,he will not be. I have no doubt that Evans is way ahead of the game in terms of his discussions. Expect an announcement early next week. The club wont want to cause issues by confirming anything prior to tomorrows game.
Know idea who the new man will be but i simply hope it will be someone who the players dare not do anything other than their absolute best for on match days. Someone who sets high standards and leaves the players no choice but to perform

I don't care how long he has been out of football (whatever that means) he is so right for Ipswich Town and we should be banging his door down, however as with Keane Marcus Evans seems to be going for a 'publicity stunt' for his business in Sheerer. Sheerer has no managerial experience other than as a caretaker for a handful of games that saw his side get relegated!!!

But then perhaps that's what Evans wants????

My wish list,
1) Tim Sherwood
2) Karl Robinson
3) Anyone who hasn't played for Town including Butcher & Holland
4) Anyone who hasn't managed a club relegated from the Premier League

Someone who plays 4-4-2 at home would be good

Dear Mr Curbishley

Thank you for your application which you made via unusual channels, ie in the national media.

Regrettably we have to inform you that on this ocassion you have been unsuccessful.

Some feedback:

- If you plan on applying for positions in the Championship, we advise you not to spout off for years that you would only take a job in the Premiership

- Your most recent position resulted in you walking out and suing your'boyhood club'. This does not sit well with potential new employers.

Regards

Simon Clegg, Esq

I could be happy with Curbishley, I think.
Personally for me though, let's prise Ian Holloway away from Blackpool - his teams play Ipswich type of football - entertainment would return to PR.
As for former players, can't we persuade Matt Holland to have some role here?

The ONLY man for the job. You don't lose it just because you have been out the game for 4 years. It's not like he doesn't know anything about football, far more than most who post on here it would appear.

It worries me no end that some of you would rather Burley, Butcher and Mills. I love them all dearly but really? Manager?

I will support who ever gets it (apart from Megson) but Curbs is my choice.
