Magilton Backing McCarthy
Thursday, 1st Nov 2012 08:48

Former manager and captain Jim Magilton has sent his good wishes to incoming Blues boss Mick McCarthy. Magilton was in the job from 2006 until 2009.

The Northern Irishman tweeted: “Good luck to Mick, like to wish him well! He will appreciate the values and traditions of the club. Back to basics! Hard to beat!”

As reported yesterday, McCarthy's appointment is set to be formally announced at a Portman Road press conference today.

Ok. Here we go.... Jim would probably have preferred another manager (himself?!) but is backing Mickey

I know little but would also have preferred another manager on a 3 year re-build (Holloway) but would certainly back Mickey too

He will achieve his million bonus and more

I wait to see where we go after that but. ..... Mickey is our man and I'll be glad to support him all the way

Good luck to Jim too! !

Seems to be the best choice, considering the mire we're in. Will get some proper attitude back into the players (and get rid of the ones that 'don't care'). Will be well dissapointed if Matty doesn't get a prominent role, as they should be looking for him to take over as manager in 3.1/2 years time (all being well)

Its nice to see Jim magilton wishing our new manager well.
Will it be Roy Keane wishing him well next i doubt it.
I dont know if Jim is working at the moment if not i would love to see him in a coaching role at the club i thought he done good job when he was manager he got us in the playoffs something both keane or jewell never done .

Mr jingles... Why would they be looking to a replacement in 3 1/2 years time? If he's successful at moving us up the league and forwards, then they'd be looking to a long stay with renewed contracts at the end of the initial one, rather than replacing him I would've thought.

Look at the longer contract anohter way ... if we are giving the manager a longer contract and using LOYALTY and SECURITY as a motivator ... maybe Luke Hyam and others will get longer deals from now on too and we will lose fewer players for nothing at the end of a contract?

Just an alternative to the "where is the motivation in a 3 1/2 year deal"

i cannot see big Mick sitting in the dugout just to take a pay cheque mind - but then I never thought any of our past managers have done that either to be fair.

Now for the players to prove to Mickey and to us that they also are in it for the win it!

Mick could do no worse than bringing Jim on board the coaching team...mind you, there'd probably be a few heated exchanges.
