Holland Backs Appointment But Hasn't Spoken to Old Boss
Thursday, 1st Nov 2012 11:34

Former Blues skipper Matt Holland has backed the appointment of Mick McCarthy as the new Town boss but says he hasn’t spoken to his former Ireland manager about a position at Portman Road, as had been widely reported.

Holland tweeted: “Excellent appointment by ITFC - Mick McCarthy is a very good manager and as honest as they come. The very best of luck to him and Terry.

“He also has a very dry sense of humour and will put a smile back on the players' faces. Three points on Saturday now!

“And, for the record, I haven't spoken to him. He has far more pressing issues - like getting ITFC off the foot of the table!”

Former loan keeper David Stockdale has also tweeted his good wishes to Town supporters: “A special good luck to waking ITFC fans and Mick MCarthy. Let’s get this massive club back where it belongs!”

Ex-England skipper Gary Lineker has also wished McCarthy well with Town: “Good luck to Mick McCarthy at Ipswich. Very sound appointment. Top man!”

Town are holding a press conference at 5pm which BBC Radio Suffolk is broadcasting live online.

I liked Stockdale, can we get him back?

It's a shame Holland isn't as involved as we thought, yet...

Bring them both back Stockdale seems to have more blue blood than most of our current squad.

Maybe something might still happen. Mick is well liked & respected in the game. Will help when he wants to bring in his own players. Reckon He might bring in Stephen Hunt.

Matt holland was for Ipswich like Lampers is/was for Chelsea. Would be great to get him back on board at some point

Hopefully Matty will get involved..would be a nice touch by the club to get the fans back onside so to speak.

As for Mick..let's hope he gets shot of some of the dead-wood..Henderson can bugger off back to West Ham for starters.

Nice to hear that from Stockdale, not all loan players are uncaring or was that supposed to only apply to the permies?

At last a proper up to date manager who will embrace all things Ipswich ,including community work. He will sort out the squad ,stick to a first 11 etc. Also his scouting network and player knowledge is brilliant. We can be nothing more than positive and lets now get behind the team and create noise in the ground. Thats worth 12 points alone this season ,we all need to motivate the team COYB

So why all the "sshh I'm not allowed to tell you" nonsense from Holland over the last week?

MARCUS STEWART :-

Former Ipswich striker, who played for McCarthy at Sunderland
"He will get respect instantly. He talks to you in the right manner and tone. You want to play for him straight away.

"What you see is what you get. He's fair and honest.

"I'm sure it's the right decision to appoint him.

"He's got fantastic experience. In the Championship he's got Wolves and Sunderland promoted.

"Over the course of the season they will improve under him and improve even further next season."

I know FM13 is not real life, but as soon as I start I terminate all loans, and Hope Mick does the same, get the squad concentrated down to those who are here for the long haul. The only caviate to that is Higginbottom and Moshni, who I think will be here after January and actually we need!

@Frase1987

Agree, a very good keeper and one genuine guy who really enjoyed playing for the Town - even if he did get back ache whilst down here.

I would welcome him back. Has the right attitude and will go far.

Been reading this blog for a long time but this is my first post.

I was completely against R Keane as Manager - I STILL find this appointment to be baffling - No idea what Clegg/Evans were thinking (Surely Rednapp didn't advise on this one!)

Then I went from being happy - we got shot of Keane - to being miserable again with the appointment of Paul Jewell. I'm not one of the "haters" on here, I've just never been a fan of PJ as a manager previously and didn't think he would be good for Town.

With all the rumouring pre PJ's exit I was (pleasantly) amazed that we had been linked with McCarthy, I'd even said to a non town fan "We'll not get MM, he's going to be too expensive and be looking for a bigger club". How wrong I was.

Absolutely delighted that we have made this appointment, this man produces great championship teams, has got 2 other clubs out of the toughest division in European football. He is also no mug and will put the boot up the backsides of players not performing.

Good luck Mick, kick some ass and lets move up this table...COYB

I think if not soon mat holland will be part of ipswich management team one day maybe when McCarthy has made us great again and moved on to one of the big t
eams holland butcher and mills could take over
I love reading that some of the old players still care about the club.
I grew up with the robson era in them days the attacking midfielders scored as many goals as the forwards players like wark and brazil . legends
When we beat arsenal and won the FA CUP was one of the best days of my life
Come on mick build us a team to be proud of our own players not loans.
GOOD LUCK MICK MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Holland now on TalkSport, Jason Cundy had the violins playing for him, asking him why he wasn't at Ipwich.

Makes me think he perhaps was trying to get a role on the staff and was unsuccessful?

Pure guesswork obviously.

I'd have liked him to be here in some capacity, purely because the crowd would warm to McCarthy more with someone like Holland by his side.

Shame Matty is not here in some roll, McCarthy is a pretty popular manager (other than with the dark lord) - it would be nice for MM to show him exactly what can be done at ITFC. Fingers crossed!
