Campbell Unsure What Change at QPR Means for Him
Monday, 26th Nov 2012 06:02

On-loan striker DJ Campbell says he doesn’t yet know what effect Harry Redknapp’s appointment as manager of his parent club QPR might have on his own future. The 31-year-old is with the Blues until January 5th with the Premier League’s table-proppers currently short of strikers.

Campbell has said he would be interested in joining Town on a permanent basis, although not another loan, while manager Mick McCarthy has said he'd be interested in doing a deal.

The striker said: “I don’t yet, we will have to wait and see what happens in January.

“I’m on loan to Ipswich, so in a way I’m in a difficult position. I will have to look at everything and see what is best for me and my family.”

The striker was left out of QPR’s 25-man squad in August but will be available to them on his return with the January transfer window having opened.

Rangers named only three strikers in their 25 — Djibril Cisse, Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora — with the latter pair currently injured.

Campbell, a QPR fan while growing up, feels Redknapp is the right appointment for the West Londoners: “Harry has done a lot in the game.

“He is a massive name who only just missed out on the England job, so he will do very well at QPR.”

Saturday’s penalty was Campbell’s fifth goal in nine games for Town but he believes he ought to have added his sixth: “I should have had another one, I was inches away and if I had got that we may have won the game.

“I just want to score goals and do well for Ipswich while I’m on loan. We have a great set of lads and a great gaffer, so I just want to do my best for them.”

Phil - I might well be being daft this early...but isn't Jamie Mackie a striker?

Hard to see Harry giving DJ a run in the side, more likely he'll be looking for another big name striker in the January window. He has a habit of bringing in such players to clubs in the past & with a supportive Chairman like Fernandez backing him he's likely to do the same again. DJ may well be available at a reasonable price (although wages?) after Christmas.

Researching population growth scientists discovered that in 25 years time you will never be further than 6 feet from a person who has played on loan at ITFC

I think Mackie is now played more as an attacking right winger, but agree he has played as an out and out striker and a very decent one at Championship level.

Well as Harry and Marcus are ment to be pretty good friends I'm hoping that we get dj on a cheep purchase or certainly get first dibs on him, that doesn't entirely fill me with confidence though as we have been known in the past to mess thinks up in that department,
That being said I'm actually happy that Harry is there knew manager as this can bowed well for us in this respect, like previously said, can't see Harry wanting to keep dj especially as he will get some serious money to spend I'm guessing but will also have to sell some players to make room.

Bluefeast, thats funny; really funny...well done for cheering me up when things are still unsettled at town. The minus ratings you've been given are from people without a sense of humour and they need to get a life. Watch how many of these little children will mark this comment down, but it's worth it just to give Bluefeast a thumbs up..thanks for the laugh mate.COYB

Lennyboy I agree with u there are a lot of people on here with a sense of humour by-pass, I've said it before on here! so I've helped turn ur minus into a plus. sometimes we are just making light of what is let's be honest is the seriuos situation we find ourselves in as a club. keep the funny's coming football is all about a bit of banter. Hope he stays without him we would struggle I can't see chopra bagging us enough goals to keep us up although I do have a feeling Barnett may do well while on loan as he seems to have a lot to prove ala jimmy Bullard per contract! But all sad and done it would help if our midfield were able to chip in with some goals or even an oz of creativity.

Think he'll stay at QPR, reports this morning say Harry isn't getting any money to spend in January.
Do we really want any loanees in this current team to sign on permanently? Thinking of the team in a collective sense here.

If he'd had a few more inches on Saturday he would have won us the game and everyboby would be crying for him to sign! He has shown the passion and desire we need and judging by the chants most of us want him to stay.

@bluefeast & LennyBoy.

I didn't mark bluefeast's comment down, but I suspect somebody who noticed he's posted the same joke several times over the last few days did!

Thanks for those fans that realize lightening the mood can actually help the town, it will boost your ability to cheer on a matchday; if you can't laugh in the face of adversity you'll never be able to lift the lads when things are getting sticky. Thats the way we all need to be during these pressing times. As for DJ, he would be an amazing signing for us and would maintain his commitment as a perm player; unlike Bullard for instance. We need a pacey little striker that ferrets out goals, put him alongside a good tall attacker and we would have goals galore. COYB

Edinburgh Blue I understand what you say, I hadn't seen it before and it made me laugh' If he uses it again I wouldn't mind as it may make someone else laugh, I wouldn't mark it with a positive again, but I wouldn't mark it down. Love ya aviatar by the way.

I love sopme of the humour/banter in football so talking of football jokes :
If you see a Norwich fan on a bike, why should you not swerve to hit him?
Odds on its your bike

or

a man goes into an Ipswich pub with an alligator under his arm.
"Do you serve Norwich fans in here?" he asks.
"Certainly Sir, no problem at all," replies the barman, nervously staring at the alligator.
"Okay," says the man, "a pint of lager for me and an Norwich fan for the alligator."

Ok I'll get my coat as they say;

Actually Phil- how about a jokes/banter page - need something to cheer us up.

Harry will bring in his own strikers - possibly even Defoe - so I doubt DJ will be part of his plans. The important thing is we have him until January; after that who knows. Wages could be a big issue.
