Barnett: I'm No Bad Boy
Tuesday, 27th Nov 2012 09:00

New recruit Tyrone Barnett is determined to prove he doesn’t deserve the bad-boy image that has followed him from Peterborough.

Barnett has joined on loan until January 19th and is set for his Town debut against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road tonight.

He was fined and transfer-listed by Posh boss Darren Ferguson earlier this month after a city centre night out with three team-mates turned sour and saw him cautioned by police.

Barnett, 27, has been told he will never play again for the Championship’s bottom club, who made him their record signing when they paid Crawley £1.2 million for him.

That was in the summer, after he netted four goals in 13 appearances during an earlier loan stint at London Road, but in the current campaign he has endured a lean spell and scored just once in 10 games.

Barnett said: “If you knew the situation you would be amazed that it got to the point where I was pushed out of the club. Other clubs would give you a slap on the wrist or maybe just a good talking-to.

“The Ipswich fans should take what they have heard and read about me with a pinch of salt. I want them to take me for what I am and I will prove myself to them.

“The lads at Peterborough and people who know me know I’m not a troublemaker or whatever name you want to come up with after what has happened. When you get to know me you will know that I’m an alright guy.”

Barnett admits he was disappointed with the circumstances of his exit from Peterborough, adding; “There are always regrets. I didn’t want to leave the club in the way that I did.

“I’d rather it was on good terms but that’s life. You just take it, get on with it and hopefully I can move on. It’s behind me now and I just want to forget about it.

“It happened and I can’t change that. I’m here now and I’m happy to be here. I’m contracted to Peterborough, they are my parent club but if I could get away I’d be delighted.”

Sounds fair enough, welcome to Town Tyrone, get some goals and you will soon turn the doubters around.

The guy actually has a half decent goal scoring record, just under 1 goal every 2 games. Played a lot of football at lower level and attracted a lot of interest from premier league teams before his move to posh. Let's hope he can step up. He's exactly the type of player you associate MM finding. He did it with Kightly, Henry, Fletcher etc..

Tonight will be a tough game, I'd take a draw but, if we can get the first goal early then Forest are a team that generally let their heads drop. COYB!

Well I do hope that he is right when he says that the story has been blown out of proportion.

The last thing we need is another trouble maker.

A couple of goals tonight would go someway to winning the fans over.

This whole issue at Peterborough seems v odd. One of the guys who was suspended for apparently being out late and drinking is their captain of several years Gabriel Zakuani, who is a teetotal, church-going fella. All v odd.

We wish you all the best Tyrone, we don't give a damn what the journalists say. They are looking for easy stories and keep on and on about eff all. I won't mention names, but Mr Ham will know who I mean.

You'll never know the 'true' events so it will remain as six of one half a dozen of the other in relation to the 'incident' I'm sure... Putting that aside, do you know what I'd do Tyrone if someone treated me like that. I'd score a hat-trick on my debut tonight, play my socks off in every game I feature in thereafter and have the smug satisfation that Darren Ferguson has royaly lost out on giving you the push - but thats just me.

Like, I said, lots to prove. However, if he is wearing the shirt & putting in a shift then he should be supported.

It seems to me that TWTD's members are showing their usual double standards on this thread.

When Carlos Edwards and others went out for a few drinks in Ipswich town centre a few weeks back, many, many posters on here accused them of being a disgrace to the club who should never play for the side again.

However, according to the Peterborough Telegraph website, Barnett and three others went out on the lash in their town centre despite being specifically told not to do so by manager Ferguson. Not only that but two players, one of which could have been Barnett, were arrested and cautioned for public order offences.

If you score 5 or 6 goals in your loan period and earn us 15-20 points then i don't care if you beat up the queen for a hobby!
