Yallop MLS Coach of the Year
Wednesday, 28th Nov 2012 10:22

Former Blue Frank Yallop has been named the MLS Coach of the Year 2012. The 48-year-old’s San Jose Earthquakes won this season’s Supporters’ Shield, which is awarded to the team with the best regular season record, but lost to Yallop’s former club the LA Galaxy in the MLS play-offs.

Yallop picked up 65 per cent of the votes cast by members of the media, MLS players and club management and was delighted to win the award: "This is a great individual honour.

"I would like to thank my players and staff for all the hard work and dedication this season. Without them, this could not have been possible."

The Earthquakes, whose Western Conference record for the season reads won 19, drew six and lost nine, picked up 66 points, only two fewer than the Galaxy’s 1998 league record of 68.

The former Canadian international previously picked up the Coach of the Year award in 2001 during his earlier spell with the Earthquakes in which he won the MLS Cup twice.

The former defender left to take charge of Canada’s national side in 2003, prior to 17 months as head coach at the Galaxy from June 2006, before returning to San Jose.

Wonderful news - he's had a brilliant season! Hopefully the earthquakes can find some longevity for the playoffs next season!
