Barnett a Big Fan of Hewitt and Taylor
Thursday, 29th Nov 2012 06:00

Tyrone Barnett has assured Ipswich fans they will enjoy what Elliott Hewitt and Paul Taylor can contribute to the cause.

The summer signings have both been sidelined, with right-back Hewitt yet to make his debut having undergone hip impingement surgery prior to his switch from Macclesfield and striker Taylor breaking a bone in his foot in only his third appearance for the club.

While Hewitt is now fully fit again, Taylor is still on crutches and likely to miss the rest of the season after recently undergoing an operation.

New boy Barnett knows both of them from playing alongside them with Macclesfield and Peterborough respectively.

He said: “Elliott had curly locks when I first knew him and when I saw him here I didn’t recognise him. I’ve had a chat with him and I hear he’s doing well. It was good to see an old friend.

“He was really young back then when he started in the first team. He has a huge amount of potential and from what I have seen of him in training here it is obvious he has come on so much. I think he’s a really good player.

“I really rate Paul too. He’s a great player, as you will see if you watch DVDs of his games and see the stuff on YouTube. He’s come to a big club and he will only get better.

“Even with Paul out of action there is a lot of competition for places and that is a healthy situation. It helps to keep everybody sharp in training and makes sure that when you get the shirt you want to keep it. It’s definitely good.

“Paul, along with DJ Campbell and Michael Chopra, is quick and can feed off the knock-downs and stuff like that. They are very good players to play with.”

That's a bit harsh Bluebat, especially considering that they have both required surgery to aid mobility following injury.

It really pissed me off that Taylor for injured, but I guess when he comes back it'll be like a whole new signing again. There is competition for places up front but, when you look at it closely, Dj, Tyrone & Murphy are all loans. If you also take away Scotland, who clearly isn't cut for championship football now, we're only left with Taylor, Chopra, Murray & I guess Jet if MM wants him as a striker.

Desperately need to sign 2 front men in the transfer window, Dj would be nice but can't see him wanting to stay permanently.

Yet again Phil's use of the apostrophe is flawless, or more to the point, his avoidance of unnecessary apostrophes, as in DVDs.

Well done.

Great interview - just ruined it at the end when he said Chopra was quick.

@campowasgod

Only way we can get Chopra to run quickly is if we build a Betfred on Portman Road!
