Hunt on McCarthy's List
Thursday, 29th Nov 2012 22:30

TWTD understands that Wolves winger Stephen Hunt is on boss Mick McCarthy’s wish-list of potential January signings. Hunt, 31, is out of contract at Molineux next summer, having rarely featured since StÃ¥le Solbakken took over as manager.

Hunt was brought to Wolves from Hull City by McCarthy for £3 million in the summer of 2010 and the Irishman, capped 39 times by his country, scoring one goal, was a regular for the next two seasons.

The Laois-born left-sided midfielder is currently sidelined having undergone hip surgery — he’s due back in action in January — but even before that had appeared only twice this season, on both occasions in the Capital One Cup, once as an extra-time sub.

Hunt, who is 5ft 8in tall, was previously with Crystal Palace, Brentford, Reading and Hull City.

McCarthy confirmed that he has already started working towards landing his January targets in Tuesday’s match programme: “We are building a picture of what we need here and are constantly looking at and talking about the squad.

“I'm already speaking to managers with January in mind, but I know what they are going to say. It's the usual stuff - come back nearer the time when they have a better idea of whether they are going to get their own targets.”

An elderly Irish crock looking for a last payday?
We've been down that road a few times in the past.
Feisty character, too.

...or, how about.. a squad including Martin, Edwards, Carson and Hunt all challenging for a first team space? Not to mention JET and Murphy who can play out wide?
This would be a fantastic sining!! Not only would this give us brilliant strength in depth and competition for places.. but he can deliver a hell of a ball and is very good at set plays too.. i think can think of a certain tyrone Barnett who would thrive off the kind of balls this guy could put into the box! Not to mention, he has experience without being to old..has a few seasons left in him yet surely?
i can also not imagine Big Mik taking the same rubbish from players as Poor Mr Jewell did.. if this was just a last pay day.. im sure mik would sort him.. or he'd be out!!
Would be a very very good sining in my books..!

Not sure about Stephen. He is a all action honest player if a bit impetuous. His comitment on the field will never be in doubt but not entirely convinced of his effectiveness. He would be a good addition to our present squad though.

Would LOVE IT if Mick could entice Kevin Doyle to Ipswich.

It would be good to have someone else who could play down the left side but i hope he can use his left foot because i hate players who make great runs down the left wing and then have to turn and get the ball on their right foot to pass or shoot and in come the tackle and they often lose the ball.
If Mick can see he is a good player i trust his judgement.
Go get him Mick and many more and i myself cant wait for january.
Come on you blues.

Regardless of whether or not this is true I like the fact that MM is already speaking to managers about the January window.

The sooner MM gets the people he wants the sooner we can get rid of the rubbish which we have at the moment.

He's 31 people not 41. Look at Carlos at 34, he can still bomb forward at good pace.
So Paul signed a couple of over 30's who were past it, most players are good until at least 32-34 ish sometimes even longer.

Do we really want another 30 something who's played no competitive football this season, I think not.
Stephen Hunt is past it and can go elsewhere to be put out to grass.
In my opinion would be another Bullard/Bowyer signing.

Not sure about this one. I think he would most likely be a decent addition to the squad but I won't be too disappointed if this move doesn't happen.

Would mean more of an end product from the left wing over the present player (Martin ) . His work rate is top of the pile but his end product is bottom of the pile !

No thanks. Can't see this being true anyway but he's been nothing like a good player for 2 or 3 years now! Hope these two new scouts will pluck some gem's out of nowhere in january instead!
