Villa Game Close to Sell-Out
Monday, 17th Dec 2012 17:22

Town are close to selling out their 2,900 allocation for the FA Cup third round tie at Aston Villa on Saturday 5th January. Tickets go on general sale by phone only from 9am tomorrow with no additional seats being made available.

Ticket office manager John Ford told the club site that the remaining tickets — which include some restricted view seats — will go on sale first thing on Tuesday: “We are closing in on selling out our full allocation of 2,900 tickets.

“We will have tickets on sale tomorrow but all sales will now be via telephone only on 0844 80 11 555, with lines open from 9am.”

Meanwhile, the Town squad celebrated their annual Christmas party in London at the weekend, taking the train back down south from Leeds alongside supporters after Saturday's game, while striker Michael Chopra has tweeted a photo of himself with Bradley Wiggins after the Tour de France victor was named the Sports Personality of the Year last night.

I think it's a disgrace they ain't making any extra seats available seeing as we are entitled to 6,500. Not everyone is a season ticket holder and will be a mad scramble before they all sell out at 9.05am. What a joke!

Me and my bro are Town fans and taking my dad who is a Villa fan. Going to have to sit in the home end as Im not keen on leaving him on his own, only £10 a ticket in the lower north stand which is next to the Ipswich, quick and easy to register with the official site and still plenty of tickets available.

Why can't we ask for more tickets? 2,900 is not enough for 3rd round FA Cup day, one of the best days in the football calendar. We are entitled to ask for more, and tickets arent even on general sale yet and we have almost sold out?!! Its a disgrace if we don't ask for more, no way to treat your fans who drive up and down the country every weekend

Yet again, another huge cock up by Clegg. My beloved Town have become a complete joke under his stewardship. My son and I go to 8-10 away matches and 10-12 home matches every season, travelling from near Reading to do so - but it looks like we can't go to the Villa game because Clegg will not ask for any more tickets (an allocation of tickets we are entitled to!). Some of us will be at work at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning when the tickets go on general sale so not much chance of getting tickets for the Villa gane!!! I despair :-(

(We'll both be at the Bristol City and Charlton games!!)

do anyone know if you can book through villa, surely they could chuck a few tickets to you for the away end?

"with no additional seats being made available"

So Villa expect to sell circa 40,000 tickets to home fans?!!!

Perhaps Mr Clegg would like to explain why we appear to have accepted (apparently without protest or negotiation) such a small ticket allocation?

Ridiculous allocation, its unusual for fans of a Premier League side to fill up the stadium in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, unless its one of the big boys. Villa hold what about 40.000 and they'll probably get about 20,000 turn up, where as our fans will be looking to a good day out and will come in there numbers for a big tie, but get a limited allocation, surely its in Villa's best interest and the ties best interest to give us a bigger allocation.

This will just cause our fans who don't get tickets, to go in the Villa end. Massive cock up by Clegg, still a clown

Yes if they're all but sold out before they're even on general sale, I hope sanity will prevail and we'll take up the full allocation. There's a very strong chance we'll sell out 6000+ as it's straight up the A14 and M6, very easy journey. And as the tickets are discounted, the financial risk if we don't quite sell out isn't huge. With 6000 town fans, it'll be like a home game which makes a money-spinning home tie in the 4th round more likely. Clegg grow a brain and don't make me sit in the Villa end.

Why the fuss Villa will spank us looking at their Saturday form MM will be leaving the key guys out Jan is about building a permanent squad and points over the second half not progressing to round 4

I am not a Clegg fan, but just wait until these tickets are sold out and the club will ask for more. If the club had taken all the 6,500 tickets and 2000 were left unsold, Ipswich would have had to pay Villa for the unsold tickets.

Interesting point, all the fans who are after tickets.......do you attend home games ?

The same thing happened for the Chelsea FA Cup game in 2011. Town, due to 'financial reasons' did not take up the full 15% ticket allocation. It was massively oversubscribed. Two years later, and it's the same nonsense.
The difference this time will be that there WILL be spare seats in amongst the Villa seats unlike Stamford Bridge which was practically sold out. So there will be Town fans in with Villa fans.

ITFC seem to have a perverse enjoyment in watching fans scramble for tickets. They will trot out the same reasons they did two years ago - "we couldn't financially risk being stuck with unsold tickets" "it's the run up to Christmas" "the team isn't doing very well". They just don't get what it means to be a fan.

We have been poor for a decade and get a big game every 12-18 months. Of course everybody wants to go. London & Midlands game are always popular because we have large fan bases around the country.

No, all the se fans don't attend all the home games. No they don't attend all the away games. Complaining about plastic fans doesn't address the problem. The problem lies with ITFC/Ticket Office's inability or refusal to understand that fans demand for big games will always be greater than a full ticket allocation. Taking a partial allocation is just another embarrassing, but predictable outcome from a club increasingly divergent from its fans.
