Camp Weighing Up Options
Monday, 14th Jan 2013 12:11

Town are reported to have held talks with Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp regarding a move to Portman Road. The 28-year-old, who has been made available by the Midlands club, has been linked with the Blues since the middle of last week.

The Northern Ireland international, who has failed to agree new terms at the City Ground with his current deal up at the end of the season, is believed to be interesting a number of other clubs — Hull City and Reading have also been linked — and is said to want to hear what might be offered by the various interested parties before making a decision on where to go.

Town — who have also been linked with Sunderland’s Keiren Westwood and Blackpool’s Matt Gilks — look to be in the market for another keeper with loanee Stephen Henderson having returned to West Ham.

Henderson, who has an ankle injury which is likely to keep him out of action for two weeks, is keen to return to Portman Road and manager Mick McCarthy is also interested in bringing him back, although the Blues boss has concerns about the 24-hour recall clause the Hammers insist on including in any deal.

Meanwhile, former Blues reserves keeper Ian McLoughlin has joined Walsall on a month's loan from the MK Dons and made his debut against Preston at the weekend. Preston have signed former Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor, who was on trial with Town earlier in the season.

Steve

I was old enough to watch the 1979 European Cup Final on the TV but not old enough to go myself.

If he signs I've no doubt that Camp will do well for you, the only alarm bell I would have is that he had premier league aspirations. Not saying that Ipswich could not get him there in a season or two but if a prem club came in I'd expect him to choose them. Just my opinion and I'd be happy to be wrong with it.

Good luck anyway.

Am I the only person who can remember what he's been like at Portman Road the last few seasons........ arrogant, time waster and by the sounds of it has a bad attitude towards his new contract.
Another Reo Coker which I for one we dont not want at our young and fresh looking squad.

Great keeper but poor attitude

Whether we sign Lee Camp or not, I personally disagree with those who say we don't need another keeper. Although ALB tries 100%, the reality is he is not good enough. A great third choice but that's all. I also realise that many on here like Scott Loach and I for one am very pleased that he played well at Cardiff and Villa. BUT I personally still don;t rate him, nor do I think he is good enough to be the definite No. 1 at ITFC. Some of his performances this season have been abysmal and you could see why he was second if not third choice at Watford. He fails to command his area and is prone to several costly gaffs. Having said that, he didn;t get too much support from the defence early season and the whole team were exceptionally poor under PJ.

Overall, I have confidence that Mick will make the right call. But competition for places is paramount, and Loach, regardless of whether he will remain as No. 1, certainly needs to be pushed. ALB won't do that.

Likes to wind up opposing fans arrogant and good at his job all the right qualities in a keeper.
Only concern is he seems to be interested in money and playing every game not high on the list of loyal players but much better than going fron loan to loan for a couple of years.

I would really like this signing, looks like a great gk. I do feel sorry for Loach though, with all these rumours about all these gk's, when he joined he was first choice goalie and if I were him I would feel quite disheartened at the moment. However I have got a feeling he will join!

Dr Sheldon Cooper sounds like a nice man. I will buy you a beer next time we play you. I've always had a soft spot for Forest for two reasons. 1. Brian Clough and 2. i was about 10 when we played you in the cup and lost. I spent the whole game terrified of a man called Franz Carr who could run like fxxx.

We had plenty of Derby fans banging on about his "arrogance" when he joined us. Whether it was warranted or not it didn't stop him being among the best keepers in the division in his first couple of seasons for us.
To be fair to him he's hardly had a settled let alone good defence in front of him for the last 1½ seasons which will also have impacted on his form.

Oh, and I hope we get Camp and the man with the poets name from Colchester and Moses from Orient. It's going to be so exciting watching Mick build a team. For the first time in ages I feel genuine excitiment that good things will happen soon. COYB.

Wiggy - cheers for that. I really don't see the point in going on another team's fan sites just to wind people up. Maybe I'm too old for it!
Having said that you might not have liked my opinion on Chambers when he was in the process of signing for you! He really didn't produce for us last season, was an awful captain and was critical of supporters which did not endear him. He needed to move away too - its probably done him good.
Old Franzie Carr - could get to the byline like a gazelle on steroids and then do little more than pass the ball to the keeper... he couldn't cross for toffee.

Dog me thinks you misread Reusers comment! Though i agree ALB will never be good enough for Champship footie and Mick has realised it pretty quick. Any one of the three linked keepers would be good.

"Weighing up the options..." OK, fair enough, Lee, but don't wait too long. The Town are on the move, and you need to keep up.

I'm beginning to wonder what exactly Scott Loach has done wrong, half the trouble these days with any player is confidence, I thought that the way he was treated by Jewell was the low point (and there were many) of Jewell's time in charge. He's had two good games, lets give him a run in the side & stop trying to sign a new number 1.....I know I'll get panned for saying this but we should have kept Wrighty, a very able number 2 and would have been a good training partner for Loach!

Give Scott a bit more time , his last two games was the first time he has had alot better defence in front of him !

Yes - We have given Campey a bit of stick
over the years ! don't think that would stop
Him from signing for us- That would be Clegg.

..... obviously not that keen to come here - let's move on - and let him go to someone who will pay him more, which must be his objective.

..... any decent keeper SHOULD be able to command his area - if this is a weakness - this is an issue that should not be impossible to 'coach' out of a keeper. That's what 'coaches' are for - COACHING.

jas - not that often that we agree but i think you are spot on with regard to our keeper situation. I would love Loach to prove me me wrong and become our number one for years to come but i cant see it. Camp is a decent keeper, but i would be happy with Gilks or Westwood too.

I don't mind anyone who comes in if they're attitude is good. Reo-Coker was someone who I always thought had high ability but he came here was unfit and wasn't interested. Loach has been poor at times but its a different situation now. The whole club was in decline at this time and low in confidence. For me the positive vibe will improve performances, just look at Smith, Chambers, Murphy ect, and so far that has happened to Loach too following 2 decent performances. I think Loach would relish Camp coming in, I think they're mates and I think they would enjoy pushing each other.

Wold just like to mentor that the norwegian national team 1st choice stopper is for sale. I actually think norwegian club Viking turned download an 500k offer for heim from Hull last year. Hos name is Rune Almenning Jarstein, and he's reallønnsvekst good! Think MM skuld Chelsea heim out!
