Campbell Set to Leave QPR
Wednesday, 16th Jan 2013 16:19

Former Blues loan striker DJ Campbell has been given the go-ahead to leave QPR in the next 48 hours by manager Harry Redknapp, according to reports. Blues boss Mick McCarthy has repeatedly said that he is still chasing the 31-year-old, despite adding three strikers to his squad during this transfer window, however, Crystal Palace have emerged as the favourites for his signature.

Palace are managed by Campbell’s former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, who tried to take the frontman back to Bloomfield Road in October prior to his three-month spell with Town.

Redknapp, who today completed the signing of Marseille striker Loic Remy, recently said that “seven or eight” Championship sides had made enquiries regarding Campbell, who scored 10 goals in 17 games for the Blues.

The striker who's looked most lively up front for ages, your future lies at Portman road Dudley !

Can't help thinking that if Redknapp hadn't asked for him back for a cursory look he would still be here. Even going off Louise now !

Don't go for this Palace are the fav because of Holliway is the manager.

Campbell enjoyed his time at Ipswich as he did at Blackpool both teams have a good manager who can get a team up.

It will all be down to money, length of contract and location

Campbell know this will be his last big contract as such so as long as the offer we have put to him is close to what he is asking for we are in just a much as a good position as Palace are.

The down side is location as he will not have to move his family but that is something the club could help with

It'll probably come down to the quality of shops…. we don't stand a chance.

Ipswich are very close to securing striker DJ Campbell on a permanent deal from QPR.

I agree with kesgraveblue. Campbell probably will have done more than any other player to save us from relegation by the end of the season (we hope) but we need to move on and thats what MM has been doing.

I love DJ as much as the next man, but this will be the last 'big' contract of his career. He'll, quite rightly, be looking for a 3 year deal. He'll be 34 by then and not sure he'll feature in what is looking like turning into a young, exciting team. He'll be 32 in the early stages of next season. I'm not saying I don't want him, but we don't need him this season, it's next that is more important now. Ironically, because he won us games when we needed it.

In short, happy if we sign him, but if he goes for a 3 yr deal, rather than a 2 year deal that I think we should offer, then so be it........

Good to read your comment Sibelius8. Perhaps we do have the luxury of being relaxed about DJ's possible return now. I think our 3 new acquisitions wil prove astute signings - particularly liked the Wolves signing , an impressive cameo at Cardiff.

Are you coming to the Bristol game?

If he joins Crystal Palace and they get promoted, chances are he'll be in the same situation as he is now at QPR. You know you love us DJ, PLEASE SIGN, PLEEEEEASE!!

HE SCORE WHEN HE WANTS!!

Do we need him is the question? I wouldn't mind on the right terms as he certainly can finish butin the light of other centre forward signings I would rather we spent our money on Judge or Moses (wing), Lewis Dunk (centre back) and Forrester/Wordsworth and Kenny McLean (attacking midfield) with Dunks and McLean top signings. Ok a bit of a wish list but young, quality players within our price range (?) and here to stay for next season's promotion push.

I also think that Chopra and Murhpy are out of the door at the end of the season.

Chopra - troubles with bet fixing - season to forget
Murphy - season loan from Celtic, what happens after that?
McGoldrick - Signing July 1st
McLean - Loan
Scotland - on his way
Nouble - Signed
Murray - loan (will he make the 1st team?)
JET - wrong attitude - possibly gone in the summer too, and now not a striker in MM's plans

That only leaves us with 2/3 recognised signed strikers, so who honestly thinks that's enough for challenging for promotion next year, and that we don't need DJ? The negative posters on here get on my thrupennies sometimes!

SIGN HIM UP NOW!!!!!

Good point FarringdonBlue and though I think Chops will come good second half of the season and we have Taylor to come back (if he's not sent down!) I have to say having DJ's quality tied down now can't be a bad thing. SIGN HIM UP MM!

Agree with Farringdon Blue, apart from the JET part, I'd like him to have some more chances.

I just hope if DJ signs it doesnt end up like Bullard, a fan favourite while on loan.

This will be another Bullard style signing- he was good on loan. but I reckon he won't be half as prolific if he signs permanently. It's just sods law- and Ipswich seem to be always be on the wrong end of that.
Let's hope I am proved wrong if he signs for us!!! COYB
