Loach in the Pink
Thursday, 17th Jan 2013 18:19

Blues keeper Scott Loach will wear pink gloves and boots for the next month in order to raise breast cancer awareness.

Loach told the club site: “I will be wearing pink boots and gloves for the next month as a way of raising awareness for breast cancer.

“My Mum had breast cancer and she really suffered during that time, so I like to raise awareness of it. Thankfully she’s okay now but obviously it’s a subject very close to my heart.

“I’ve done something every year ever since and I wanted to do something a little bit different this year, so that’s how I came up with the idea of the pink boots and gloves.

“In the past I’ve held parties and charity games but this year I wanted to take the pink onto the pitch and I settled on the idea of pink gloves and pink boots.”

Loach, 24, is also trying raise cash for the charity Against Breast Cancer via a Just Giving page: “Every little bit helps — whether it’s £1 or £100 — and I’m truly grateful as anything we can raise is a positive.

“I’ve set up a Just Giving page for people to donate, which has been up and running for a day or two now and the response has been great so far. The fans are getting involved, which is great, and we just need to get the word out there now.

“All the lads are on board with it too and they will all be contributing, which is really good of them as they know it’s for a good cause.

“Arran Lee-Barrett will also be wearing pink gloves and will have the bottoms of his Nike boots sprayed pink, which is in aid of breast cancer too.”

So much respect to Loach for doing this, a professional footballer who isn't all about himself with money. Brilliant headline "Loach in the pink" brilliant.

i wish he could get a bit more vocal, commmanding in his area and would come for crosses! not only would we have a top bloke then, but also a keeper who could be our number 1 for many many years!

Not sure that those colours will boost his confidence - especially if there are a few away fans gathering.

Well done Scott and many thanks. I am in remission from breast cancer after 18 months of treatment and keeping my fingers crossed. Without this charity, I know I would not have been able to have some of the variety of treatments that I had,. and continue to have. I am hoping that ongoing trials will help to prevent my daughters going through the same awful experience. I wouldnt wish it on anybody, please support Scott.

What a lovely thing to do. I really do hope no opposition fans give him stick without realising...

Well done Scott great respect to you for this. I lost my two older brothers to cancer last year so I know the effect this can have on a family. Nice to see a player giving something back and raising awareness.

Good to see Loach is looking to do something. But it's not very pink. It seems a bit half hearted...
This would be more like it:
