Town Confirm Barnsley Game Is On
Saturday, 19th Jan 2013 08:49

Town have confirmed that today's game against Barnsley is on, a stadium and pitch inspection having taken place this morning.

A statement on the club site reads: "Town’s game against Barnsley this afternoon has been the given the green light to go ahead as planned, after passing an inspection of the pitch and the stadium area first thing this morning.

"An extensive team worked overnight to clear the seating area an access points around the stadium and the safety officer at the club has given the green light for the game to be played.

"The pitch has been covered overnight and the snow that did fall has been cleared off the playing surface and into the first two rows of the Cobbold Stand and the East of England Co-op Stand.

"Supporters in the lower tier of the Cobbold Stand will be upgraded to the upper tier. They should access through their normal turnstiles and will be issued with new tickets at that point.

"Only the first few rows at the front will be affected in the lower Co-op Stand. Supporters in this area should check with stewards as they enter the Stand and those sitting in the ‘snow covered seats’ will be allocated new seats in the upper tier.

"Supporters in those areas are advised to arrive early to ensure they are relocated in time for kick-off.

"All fans are advised to be careful in and around Portman Road and take extra care with their journeys to and from the stadium."

Silly decision. Going to be so cold down there. Also the amount of snow around the surrounding area is ridiculous, what if someone slips and breaks their leg? Ridiculous decision from itfc. #CleggOut

Wow you clearly can't please some people.

Handled in a much improved way, nice early inspection and lots of effort has gone into this. Hope we win! COYB!!

Some of you really need to man up and get some nuts! It's only a bit of snow. This country falls to bits when we get even the slightest covering.

I used to get sent to school when there was three feet of the stuff on the ground and would sit in the old pre-fab classrooms with my parker done right up to keep warm!

Great news, but are we guaranteed the 90mins,? Feeling a Middlesbrough repeat? Are there to be anymore inspections phil?

Sitfc - Irony I hope. No one is being forced to go to the game and if anyone is worried about falling over or getting a bit cold then don't go! COYB!

No snow yesterday and not a lot last night, but it is still falling lightly

Agreed... Good work ITFC ...As long as the pitch is playable and all access/egress points are clear game on I say... Its up to people to make the decision if they want to 'brave' the conditions... like others say... if too cold for you or worried about roads and rail... don't Go!... I for one am chuffed and would travel on ski's if I had to!

I'm so happy. If it was off, my wife had asked me to tidy the loft this afternoon.

And Liamolly .... No we are not guaranteed 90 mins... of course not... all they can do is make a decision on the moment... Its fine now so as it stands we are playing... If conditions do get bad it may be called off... yes it would be disapointing ... but that's life... you cant postpone it now in case it gets bad later... you just never know... take yesterday for example we were forecast 10 cms ... schools closed early... And we ended up getting nothing!

As long as I can get into Legends,if its called off later.
Can remember days when they played with orange ball in the snow, games against FC Twente and I think against Norwich when Gerry Baker was centre forward and there was controversy when only the home goalmouth was sanded at half time?

Don't get me wrong lower north, didn't mean it in the sense "it had better be guaranteed" just no mention of another inspection before kick off to reassess, I'm going no matter what, but if there's a good chance that all will be ok then will take my 11yr old along for the show! COYB Mcgoldrick and McLean to get one each today, both looked good against Cardiff sat - from what I can remember!!
