N'Daw Could Stay With Blues
Friday, 25th Jan 2013 06:03

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’d like loan midfielder Guirane N’Daw to stay at Portman Road beyond the end of the season and that the player is also keen to remain at the club he joined on a temporary basis in August. But the Blues manager, who revealed he was previously interested in signing N’Daw when he was at Wolves, warned that wages might prove to be a stumbling block.

McCarthy says that as with other members of the squad whose terms are up this June, he’s yet to hold detailed talks about the Senegalese international's future: “He is out of contract at St Etienne in the summer and like everybody else, I’ve not spoken about it.

“I’ve had a very short discussion with Gui, which I think was on the lines of ‘Yeah, gaffer, I like you, you like me, we stay, you stay, I stay,’ and that was it, something similar to that discussion. So, hopefully, I stay and he might stay and we’ll be OK.

“He’s been fine, he’s done great. He’s done wonderfully well compared to what I was told when I came in.

“He looks really trim and thin. I tried to sign him at Wolves a long time ago and he has been a key player for us, he’s been terrific.”

That interest means McCarthy is aware of the wages N’Daw is on at his French club: “I would think we’re taking him on a considerable cut of his salary from what he was on at St Etienne, knowing what he was earning when I was trying to sign him.

“He likes it here and we like having him. He’s been really good, I know he likes it and he would like to stay and if we can do it, fine.”

Good news. The few times I have seen him play he bosses the defensive midfield area. This would be a good signing.

Another one like DJ, does well here and moves on to somewhere else. The problem with loan players. They are in the shop window.

"He's done wonderfully well compared to what I was told when I came in"

That one quote by MM sums up everything we needed to know about why we were struggling in the way we were before he arrived. Big G has been solid for us and fundamental to everything good about us in recent months.

I hope the above post isn't proven right, but it is a worry. We should certainly try to get him in. Puts a shift in and gives it all, even if he's not the best at attacking flair!

All we need now is Joey Barton to have a quick chat with him in his native tongue and the deals as good as done.

"He's done wonderfully well compared to what I was told when I came in, he's really trim and thin"-

Could be about when Jewell and N'Daw had a fall out when he was left out at Cardiff and didn't play after, so it could imply something about what the previous staff thought of his temperament which seems fine to me, no one is happy when they're not playing.

It could also be about his weight? as it is followed by 'trim and thin', bit out of order if thats the case. The other reason could be that McCarthy was told he isn't very good technically because when he joined us thats what alot of fans were saying.

Anyway. I say try and sign him up if wages dont prove to be an issue. Everyone needs a player like him who gives 100% and allows the more creative players to make things happen. The problem hasn't been N'Daw, the problem has been that those around him haven't created enough going forward so even if N'Daw is doing his job we haven't been too much of an attacking threat.

He has done well, but very similar to Hyam i.e. a defensive midfielder. We need a creative one to play alongside one or the other.

Doesnt matter if MM wants him to stay, if the club dont want to pay N'Daw a wage that another club are, then expect a simular situation to the DJ Campbell situation.
