Wordsworth Set for Medical
Tuesday, 29th Jan 2013 12:41

Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is reportedly set to undergo a medical at Portman Road with his move to the Blues close to completion. TWTD first reported that the 24-year-old was set to join Town a fortnight ago, boss Mick McCarthy having caught him in action for the U’s in November.

A deal is understood to have been agreed between the clubs — a fee of £100,000 having been reported yesterday — with Wordsworth’s Colchester contract up in the summer.

Camden-born Wordsworth came through the Colchester youth system and made his senior debut in August 2007.

Since then the central midfielder, who can also play wide, has made 155 starts and 44 substitute appearances, scoring 35 goals.

Last season he scored 13 times but this campaign, as the U’s have struggled near the foot of League One, the set-piece expert has managed only three.

I've never seen him play so can't comment on that aspect, but signing young players from League One is absolutely the way to go. Let's not stop here, let's bring in some other lower league youngsters to build a squad for the future!

Have watched him alot over the last few years and he has been poor for the last 18 months, his set-pieces are good, but he is really lazy, really hope he proves me wrong, but for 100k worth the risk.

Well hopefully he turns out to be the next john wark or mattie holland. At the price well worth taking him onboard.

If MM likes 442 where will he fit in. Think both Edwards and Martin have outlived their usefullness and need to be got rid of.

Assume he plays in the centre of midfield which puts Hyam or N'Daw as possible players he would take over from. Could N'Daw play out wide on the left which allows Wordsworth and Hyam to play in the middle

Good to see that sort of player joining the club though and most definitely like Stearman. Very good defender

Just need a decent keeper - Henderson would do - and maybe we can start to turn leads into wins!

daniel9624 - Are we talking Darren Currie MK2 here?

Lets hope he can re-create last years form when he got 13 goals and 5 assists from midfield. I think MM will play him on the left instead of Martin who, in spite of his work rate, has virtually no end product. Alan Judge is available on a free in the summer so we could get a similar cut price deal for him too
