Stearman Move Confirmed
Tuesday, 29th Jan 2013 15:00

Town have confirmed that the paperwork relating to Wolves defender Richard Stearman’s half-season loan with the Blues has been completed. The 25-year-old was at Playford Road this morning to join his new team-mates for training.

The former England U21 international was brought to Molineux from Leicester, where he had come through the academy ranks, by Blues boss Mick McCarthy during his time in charge of the Midlanders.

The defender helped Wolves to the 2008/09 Championship title and then regularly featured for them in the Premier League.

Stearman played alongside fellow loanee Patrick Kisnorbo while with the Foxes and striker Frank Nouble was also at Wolves until joining Blues earlier in the month.

The versatile defender, who looks set to take over from the departed Bradley Orr at right-back, hadn’t made an appearance for Wolves since Dean Saunders took over as boss at Molineux. Prior to that, he had made 11 starts and four sub appearances this season.

Good signing! Think he will be every bit as good as Bradley Orr. Now tie up the Wordsworth deal tonight please Mick!!

Great signing. Obviously we needed a replacement for Orr. I can't believe that only 3% of people thought that full back was the area that most needed strengthening. Odd...

Well done Mick!

Do we reckon that we'll be able to stump up enough toi buy him in the summer if we like him? £1.8m seems a lot, even though Mick says he'll have some money to spend.

Sorry but Hewitt is the future, not the right now. We are still not safe and if we have to take a whole team on loan to secure safety then so be it. If we are safe with 5-10 games to go (big if) then let Hewitt play the run-in, but until then a former England Under 21 international, with premier league experience and versatile in a number of positions, its a no brainer.

I understand that people want to see Hewitt playing regularly, but he's not that much of an experienced player. With the way we are playing at the moment I'm happy to see short and long term loanees, just to secure ourselves this season in the championship. Stearman has experience at this level and in the premier league. Hewitt is definitely one for the future. Also I've heard great things about Wordsworth from Colchester fans. And I'm looking forward to him slotting in nicely in midfield, maybe replacing Martin who has not impressed me too much recently. Don't get me wrong, he will run and run all game but failing to finish from 3 yards out at Bristol city...woah!!!
