Stearman Jumped at Chance to Work With Old Bosses
Tuesday, 29th Jan 2013 15:53

New loan signing Richard Stearman says the chance to work with manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor again was a significant factor in his decision to join the Blues. The 25-year-old will be at Portman Road for the rest of the season.

Speaking in an interview with Ipswich Player, Stearman said: “I have obviously worked under Mick and TC before and that was a big factor in me coming here.

“Once I knew I was wanted down here at Portman Road, I jumped at it. I know a few of the lads already, so it was nice to see a few familiar friendly faces this morning.

“I have not played as much football as I would have liked this season so the opportunity to come here and play games made it an easy decision.

“It’s frustrating when you work all week and then have to sit on the bench or in the stands on a Saturday afternoon.

“Footballers want to be out there playing and I’m no different. I’m looking forward to my time here and hopefully helping Ipswich get some points on the board.”

Meanwhile, Anthony Wordsworth’s switch from Colchester seems more likely to be completed tomorrow rather than today, the clubs having agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £100,000.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who we revealed would be joining Town a fortnight ago, is understood to have spent two days training with the Blues squad during the following week while the clubs negotiated a deal.

Hopefully the jigsaw will come together. We get points on board to make us safe & Maybe blood some young lads for the final few games.

Good experience and he's only 25. Can only get better, although will we make this a permanent? Feel for Hewitt a bit, but he's young and upcoming. Wordsworth looks a great signing too, hopefully the creative midfielder we need.

staying in the division is all i care about. The mentality of some of our players is wrong ,Edwards ,to laid back ,Martin ,all for himself and not the team. Fingers crossed.

Happy to have him on board. For interest, does anyone know why he is rated at £1.8 million yet Wolves do not play him? I don't recall their defence being that good.

He looks so elated at the prospect of joining !! :)
Welcome to Portman Road and hope that MM gets the best from you.
If he does Wolves will cash in !!

The very fact that Wolves dont play him would de value him as far as any interested other Club would go Id say. Come the summer , suspect his transfer value will be more ot our liking .

Pleased about this move - it's been coming for some time. Also good to see Kisnorbo is staying, especially given he and Stearman are already familiar with each other having played together at Leicester (along with McAuley and Fulop, funnily enough!)

dreadful signing! just what we need a another of our managers old clubs rejects. Wolves owners must be chuffed they shifted this waste of space of their wage bill!

Certainly now fair bit of competition at the back now, which has been MM's teams strengths in past;lets hope that midfield signing materialises as desperately short of flair in that department.I also think unlike some that we need a good gk.Begovich was excellent here and is now playing in prem for Stoke, not sure how old Alexander is but believe still playing for Glasgow Rangers inScottish 3rd Div.
We need stoppers of this calibre which we havn't had since for several years.

Get in! Nice work Mick, Wordsworth is an exciting signing too if it completes?

Hopefully he has something to prove to Wolves for leaving him out and all those doubters. Just have to see if he can live up to that large price tag. He has experience of the Prem League and is still young enough to be hungry which is just what we need to get us out of the position we are in.

Welcome Richard. I would like to know how many of his 250 league apparences have been centre half how many full back? did he play many games at centre half in the pre for Mick?

Good signing! Although I'm starting to think I've been an ITFC fan for too long. I've got real concerns that the Wordsworth deal will fall through. Just because the whole thing has been made so public by CUFC. I think they're hoping someone else will come in and start a bidding war.

I much prefer a shock signing that no one knew was happening! lol

Why not just get the Wordsworth deal done? It's not exactly big money is it?!

Delighted to sign Stearman - albeit only on loan (yet another!).

i seem more enthusiastic about next season than this season.after saturdays tough to take defeat i think not unless we go on a run of wins to the end of the season, we are not going to be in the mix at the end of the season. i think if we can keep some of the loanees that we would have a pretty strong core to the team.keeping spearman and an a few others would see us covered in the areas we havevn't been for years.i think with the guy from colchester signing it makes me wonder whats going to happen to drury, who in my eyes hasn't done much wrong this season, he must be pretty good then!

27 apperances at centre half in prem league before breaking his wrist! Hewitt still might get a chance or two yet.

mattb97,give up the x-lax , Managers who sign players from their past teams do so because they know the player, from working together. To tag the player as a reject is unfair and stupid.Mick is a better judge of players than PJ was ,and i would suggest a better judge than yourself ,give them both a chance and some credit . Welcome RC . COYB

Seems as though new boss Saunders doesn't rate Stearman, so he could become available in the summer. If he proves a good signing (and obviously MM/TC have time now to weigh him up) and we have a decent last few months to season then he may be encouraged to stay (and he seems happy to back under MM), and sign for a club going in right direction.

Matt B - I tend to agree with you; low on confidence, Wolves fans are laughing we've taken him and i got slated here last night for saying so, he is no great shakes, however i hope he proves us doubters wrong. In Mick we trust.
