Stearman's Wolves Career Might Not Be Over
Wednesday, 30th Jan 2013 14:03

Wolves manager Dean Saunders says new Blues loan signing Richard Stearman could yet have a future at Molineux. Yesterday, the defender, who has a year left on his Wolves contract, completed a switch to Town until the end of the season.

But Saunders says that that doesn’t necessarily mark the end of the 25-year-old’s time with the Midlanders.

“I’ve told him to get some games in and I’ll watch him play for Ipswich and I’ll make a decision on him in the summer.

"I’ve told him to be prepared to come back here in pre-season,” Saunders said, speaking to the Wolverhampton Express and Star.

“I’ve said to him that I haven’t had a chance to work with him for very long but I’ve got about six players who can play at right-back.

“Richard needs to play some games as he’s not played for a long time. I just felt it was fair and it’s a salary off the wage bill.”

So if you do well then we'll keep you. If you don't do well then no one wants you.

That's a lose - lose situation for us then

When will this loan nightmare ever end! We are a dumping ground for players that no one else wants. Absolutely fed up with what is happening at our once great football club. The lunactics have definately taken over the asylum!

What Saunders is saying " if you do well we can justify the transfer fee we quoted ! " . He will try that but Stearman may say no thank you to staying after being treated with so little respect !

he's not going to say he doesn't want him because that will put his price down, i think if he has a good spell here and enjoys it he won't want to go back to Wolves anyway.

So frustrating that we make what are initially good signings who do well for us but are essentially just using us as a shop window. 'Thanks for getting my career back on track, I'm off to find a higher placed club'.

If wolves carry on much like us Saunders probably won't be there himself next season! He rarely stays anywhere long

Bit of a cr@p situation we're in at the moment..I lay no blame at Mick's door - his hands are tied cash-wise...BUT...this club of ours seriously needs to have a look at it's overall "plan" during the summer because I for one think that the constant comings and goings of loanees/players on short contracts etc is killing my love of the club/football in general....how many keepers have we had in the last 5 years??

How can we expect to get behind the team 100% when half of it is made up of players who probably couldn't care less where they play their football as long as they get paid...it's gone too far.

I want to see our team full of "our" players..I don't mind the odd loanee here and there...tbh,i'd be quite happy if the loan system was closed completely..then all clubs would have to give more of their own kids a chance..that could only be good for the game surely?

Saunders seems all talk with little substance.
He has to cut the wage bill and trim down the squad will not want to upset any players just in case he needs them.
As of now he doesnt want you Richard, Mick does, as for he is gong to be watching he might be a little bit too busy chasing the dream of winning a game as wolves boss starting at leicester tomorrow,

Lightningboy - I agree 100% and said similar on the forums yesterday. I would like to see no more than 3 loans max at our club in the whole of next season!!

im SICK of signing players in this scenario, we need to be looking at players we actually have a chance of signing, not building them up for other teams.

It could go either way,he may not fit in so a loan is the best thing at present.Lets just wait and see and don't knock the situation just yet.

JWM - absolutely agree with you - cannot see how we benefit anywhere near enough from this kind of situation - as others have said just building players up for A.N. Other Club to potentially benefit from.

Where are we heading ? - was hoping we would not have to ask this question again, but ..........

And if he says "he has not got a future with Wolves" isn't that constructive dismissal?
I don't see what else he can say.

My thoughts on saunders' comments are that he is making the assumption that Stearman would want to remain at Wolves. What a shock it will be to him then when he discovers in the summer that RS (who jumped at the chance to work with MM again) actually wants to remain at Ipswich and declines any improved contract with Wolves! All the player has to do is sit tight and his transfer value plummits as his current contract winds down. Town won't be paying anywhere near their current valuation.
