Ellington Leaves Town
Thursday, 31st Jan 2013 17:10

Striker Nathan Ellington has revealed that he has left Town by mutual consent. The 31-year-old, who recently spent time on loan at Scunthorpe, was contracted to the Blues until the summer.

Ellington told the Sporting Life: "I didn't see any future here and I think there will be a lot more opportunity for me at another club.

"I'd like to find a new club as quickly as possible really because you don't want to miss out on playing and training for too long because you need to keep your sharpness up. That's the aim and then I can continue the rest of the season and finish on a good note.

"I would obviously accept a move down the divisions now because of what's happened over the past few years with not playing much. Maybe I need to drop down so I can start playing regularly and remind people of my qualities.

"I'm prepared to do that and I've played in all the leagues before so I have experience of how it goes down there. I'm just raring to play football regularly again.

"I'm always helping the younger players and they're always appreciative of it. They always say it's good to train with me so they can get that extra bit of advice as well. Having a player with my experience at a club does benefit others."

Ellington, who says he would consider moving abroad, having previously played in Greece on loan with Skoda Xanthi, made only three starts — just one in the league — and 16 sub appearances for the Blues without scoring after signing on a free transfer in the summer of 2011 having been released by Watford.

He says he hoped he would have been involved more under his former Wigan boss Paul Jewell: "It was the most frustrating time of my career because there was a lot less chances to get a run of games. I would have thought under Paul Jewell I would have got that but for one reason or another I didn't.

"When Mick McCarthy arrived I had a bit of an injury but I still tried to train as you want to make a good impression on the new manager. I went out to Scunthorpe on loan but a mixture of injuries, games being called off and the flu meant the move kind of backfired really.

"Just before I left Scunthorpe I got fit again and was ready to play but unfortunately it was the end of the loan period. But I feel good now and I've been training really well so I just want to kick on and start afresh at a new club.

"As for Mick McCarthy I have nothing but respect and admiration for him - he's running the club really well. As for me, it's just one of those things that if you're not needed then you have to look elsewhere.

"But I now have an opportunity to move on and that's what I've set my sights on doing. I'm not going to dwell on the past."

Good luck Duke, it never worked out at Town, move down the leagues and maybe you can return to your old self.
We cant blame you for the 2 year deal or whether you should have been signed in the first place.

I thought he'd already gone, poor Duke, it's never quite been the same since he left Wigan.

@jas0999 This explains why MM gets paid for managing Ipswich and you don't! MM knows what he is doing and what he wants while it is obvious you haven't got a clue .

Most ineffective signing ever?
I think he'd even struggle at Rovers these days!
