Ghana Trip Meeting Tonight
Thursday, 21st Feb 2013 10:43

A special presentation evening about the ITFC Charitable Trust's trip to Ghana is being held in the Players’ Lounge at Portman Road this evening (6pm – 8pm) where those interested in taking part to can find out more. After the success of their trip to Kenya in 2011, the Trust is offering its supporters the chance to spend 10 days on the gold coast of Ghana from Monday 18th – Friday 29th November 2013.

Aimed at bringing like-minded individuals together, this trip is being organised to carry out essential building work on primary schools around Woe, a small rural town in Ghana’s Volta region.

The trip is organised by African Adventures from start to finish; from private airport pick-ups and in-country orientation to project briefings and organised leisure time.

The aim is to raise funds for ITFC Charitable Trust, whilst supporting African Adventures’ partner projects in Ghana and providing supporters with a life-changing experience.

The money raised for the ITFC Charitable Trust will help fund schemes run by the club’s charity helping young people in Suffolk, inspiring them, motivating them and getting many back on track and into a path of education or employment.

At the presentation evening there will be staff on hand to discuss both the adventure and the projects you’ll be helping to support at the Trust and in Woe, Ghana.

Terry Baxter, the Trust’s chief executive, says they are looking to replicate the achievements of the Kenyan adventure in 2011, Town's Simon Milton is pictured above during that trip.

Baxter said: “The previous trip we did to Kenya was a huge success not only generating much needed funds for us as a charity but each of the participants returned with tales of their once in a lifetime experiences shared.”

African Adventures works with community projects in developing areas of Africa. Volunteers can choose how they help, with project roles ranging from teaching in schools and working with underprivileged children, to football and multi-schools training.

The trip will support African Adventures’ Community Development Pledge, which provides resources and micro-finance to all projects it supports.

Dan Mew, UK development manager at African Adventures, said: “We are delighted to continue this partnership with the ITFC Charitable Trust.

"Volunteers on this trip will help support our Community Development Pledge, where we have committed to providing schools and youth centres across Ghana with teaching, coaching and community support, as well as development assistance.

“ITFC Charitable Trust supporters and staff will have a life-changing experience and will have positively engaged with over 1,000 children who live in extreme poverty.”

All aspects of the trip will be organised by African Adventures and the ITFC Charitable Trust, including fundraising support.

Those taking part in this African Adventure will stay together in a private volunteer house, surrounded by a beach garden. The accommodation benefits from running water, electricity and Western-style toilets.

The facility is based in a private compound and rooms will be same sex and couples can have their own rooms upon request. You do not need to be qualified in your chosen field – you will be provided with teaching or sports coaching resources prior to departure.

Volunteers of all ages welcome but under-16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no upper age limit.

Places are strictly limited but are still available, so those interested in finding out more are invited to attend the 2013 African Adventures Launch Presentation at 6pm in the Players’ Lounge at Portman Road.
