Martin: Mick Will Get It Right at Town
Friday, 1st Mar 2013 12:20

Lee Martin’s Ipswich future may be uncertain but he is confident Mick McCarthy’s appointment as manager will reap dividends next season.

Martin, 26, is not only confident about Town preserving their Championship status but fully expects them to mount a promotion challenge.

The winger will be out of contract in the summer and accepts he might not be around at the start of McCarthy’s first full season in charge.

But he insisted: “Listen, the manager will get it right, there’s no two ways about it. He’ll get the players in and he’ll get it going. What he’s done since he’s been here has been brilliant.

“Not everyone might agree with it but if we did it over the course of a full season it would get us close to the top two. I’m sure he will get the right players in and next season they could be right up there.

“With Mick it’s a case of what you see is what you get. He won’t shy away from a few harsh words and that’s the best way to be. He’s honest with everyone.”

Martin is happy to put his own future to one side for the time being and focus his attention on the club’s battle to survive.

He added: “It’s been like that since the start of the season with my future unclear. It probably doesn’t help going into a season not knowing where you are going to be the following season, but the manager has assessed it and decided we will talk about contracts at the end of the season.

“I’m more likely to stay under Mick McCarthy. I enjoy working under the gaffer and TC. It’s brilliant.”

"Im sure he will get the right players in and next season they could be right up there" talking as if he's not here next season already

Let's hope he is right, as ITFC's Championship status is hanging in the balance at the moment with the teams near the bottom earning win after win. It will be a massive relief in April/May if we do manage to get enough points to stay up. Our results have been good under McCarthy so we just have to keep that going and not relapse.

what worries me is the "will town escape the drop poll" i remember that being at about 17% and its grown steadily everyday, now being at 39.3%... :/

Lee Martin just play your part in a Town win! it's all anyone can ask of you. I'm not against you! as you are wearing my town shirt, I am on always your side as I am for every other player in the team, if the boo boys are getting down remember 99% are on your side.

I am sure mick will get it right , given the funds and the time , the question is can he avoid the brink of relegation which his predecessors have left us teetering on

If we stay up, Martin will be offered a contract and will sign.
If we go down, Martin will leave.
Will we stay up? It'll be close, but I reckon we'll just make it.

I don't care about next season right now.
We need to do all we can to avoid relegation this.....
League 1 would be disastrous

Regarding his 'they' comment to say 'we' would have sounded like he was presuming that he was getting a new contract- and I don't think such presumptions and MM go well together!
