Hendo: JET's Block Vital
Tuesday, 5th Mar 2013 06:00

David McGoldrick may have been Town’s match-winning hero last time out but Stephen Henderson is quick to acknowledge Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ key role in the win over Leicester.

While McGoldrick claimed the only goal Henderson believes Emmanuel-Thomas also ensured that all three points, rather than just one, remained at Portman Road.

He said: “It was a great finish. I’m obviously thrilled for him because he’s a smashing lad. When I train with him I haven’t seen many better players and he’s showing it in matches as well.”

The goalkeeper pointed to the substitute’s last-gasp block on Andy King’s shot to prevent what he is convinced would have resulted in a certain goal.

Henderson said: “To be totally honest I had to look twice when it happened. I watched it back on the DVD later and it was definitely going to be a goal. It was from quite close in.

“I’m also happy for JET because he has had a bit of a tough time with not playing much recently. That just sums our team spirit up at the minute. Someone like Jay at full stretch and throwing his body in front of the opposition is great to see.

“It was a key moment because it came so late in the game. Had he not got the block in we would have only taken the one point instead of three, no doubt about it.”

We can see how important commitment and work rate is. Sometimes it not obvious to see how important it is in terms of points but JETS desire and commitment to the block was worth 2 pts to his team.

MM quickly identified work rate as a problem for the squad and has got that sorted in addition with organised team defending and concentration. How many points were lost in previous seasons due to lack of effort??

Its such a morale boost to JET and the squad to see the positive impact of this improved work ethic in the squad, long may it last!

just seen some videos of him at Arsenal, the guy has so much talent, technically brilliant - if he adds work ethic to his game then he will without a doubt be one of the best players in this league. come on JET rip this league apart :-)
