Keeper Brown Joining Town
Thursday, 28th Mar 2013 09:57

Former Blackburn, Gillingham and Aberdeen keeper Jason Brown has revealed that he is joining the Blues.

Brown, who was previously unattached and has joined the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season, tweeted: “I can let it out the bag now all signed off and I'm very happy and proud to announce that I am officially an Ipswich Town player.”

The 30-year-old, who has been capped three times by Wales at full level, was born in London and started his career as a youth player with Charlton before making his name with the Gills, where he played 137 games between 2001 and 2006.

Brown, who will wear the Town number 13 shirt and has been training with the squad this week, moved on to Blackburn, signing a four-year deal, but made only 12 starts and four sub appearances while at Ewood Park, during which time he spent stints on loan at Saturday's opponents Leeds, Leyton Orient and Cardiff.

In the summer of 2011 he joined Aberdeen, where he made 22 starts and one sub appearance before leaving in January to look for a club in England.

Town adding a third senior keeper to their ranks is no surprise with West Ham having recalled Stephen Henderson from his loan last week after their second-choice Raphael Spiegel broke a finger while on international duty with Switzerland’s U21s.

Scott Loach impressed manager Mick McCarthy during his spell in the side before picking up a thumb injury and it may well be that the former Watford man gets the nod against Leeds on Saturday.

Today is the final day that Football League clubs are able to sign players on loan, but with six domestic loanees already in the squad - Reece Brown, David McGoldrick, Aaron Mclean, Patrick Kisnorbo, Richard Stearman and Jay Tabb - it's unlikely that the Blues will make any further additions.

Is he any good?

Fair enough... know very little about him to be honest. However if you're interested (and want to take it with a pinch of salt) this is what Wiki says about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Brown_(footballer)

Clearly MM does not see either Loach or ALB as any good, so I expect them to be gone in the summer.

Never heard of him.

Looking at his career history in recent times Bergholtblue, he comes across very much as a 'backup' or emergancy loan keeper. The fact Hendo has gone back to West Ham I reckon Brown will be on the bench and Loach will start... could be wrong though, however he's unattached and free so makes sense to get him in until the end of the season.

Bench at best and emergency cover. Loach will be in goal. That said, welcome, Jason!

@sirbenofmorlingshire , he is not an emergency loan he is an ipswich town player now, well until end of season anyway.

I feel surprised but I shouldn't be, It seems like he will be back up to Loach other wise I think Mick would have gone for a keeper with a bit more pedigree. If I'm wrong and he's come in to be number one then that would really give negative signals to Loach. Welcome to the club though and it's good to have another player we can label 'big Jase'.

Sure I remember seeing him play at Portman Road years ago for one of his previous clubs (could it have been Gillingham?). From what I do remember he was pretty impressive for a young keeper at the time. Can anyone confirm this or is it my memory playing tricks on me!

He always seems to be the one commenting on racism in football on sky sports news a lot. Hope he's just back up for Loach as he's certainly not better than him.

Getting silly now. Just put Loach in goal and ALB on the bench.

@Gordonzola- he played against us for Gillingham at Portman Road a whileback and played really well and they beat us 1-0 that day, I think that might be where you recall him from.

He was fantastic for Gillingham at Portman Road back in 2002. Never forgotten that performance.

Yes, let's just see out the season and get the GK situation sorted once and for all in time for Aug. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see MM make a move for Hennessy or Westwood. Why not go for Paul Robinson or Steve Harper, if they aren't too pricey. Surely we could get a couple of years out of them.

He looks an absolute dead ringer for John Carew in that photo.

@Scowie, didn't say he was a loan keeper mate, I meant in the past that seems to have been his calling. And in regards to 'seeing him at PR recently' according to that Wiki page I added he came on as a sub for leeds in october 2010.

I expect this is a short-term deal until the summer? It seems sensible to bring Brown in as cover and to take a look at him over the coming weeks. If we didn't, imagine if Loach got injured meaning we had to face some of the most important matches in the club's history with Lee-Barrett as our only fit senior keeper.

We must sign a sound, solid, reliable, permanent first choice goalkeeper in the summer, and I am not sure Brown or Loach are good enough for that role on a long-term basis. I would love either of them to prove me wrong!

I'd like to see Loach get a good run in the team. Remember, Henderson was rubbish when he first came to Town but really settled in under McCarthy and became a big asset to the side. I think Loach deserves another go.

Importantly, Brown is not a loanee, so isn't affected by the limit on the number allowed in the matchday squad. Shrewd move by McCarthy, I think.

Loach to start though right?

I'd let Mclean go. Nouble, Chopra, Murphy, McGoldrick, JET...
Plenty of options. Don't see the need for Mclean.

Remember him playing against us for Gillingham and as a young lad watching on I thought he was outstanding. Should hopefully be more than adequate if called upon.

So loach will be disappointed. He was shouting his mouth off in the East Anglian today saying "I'm number one".

As a Gillingham supporter I can vouch for Banksy !! He's a decent keeper, watched most of his games for us over that period !! Gills support wanted him back at Priestfield but it never happened !! Will be a really good signing for 'Town'
