Drury: Frustrating Season
Saturday, 30th Mar 2013 06:02

When it comes to describing the current campaign Town midfielder Andy Drury can sum it up in one word — frustrating. The midfielder has clocked up three successive starts and hopes to make it four in a row when Leeds United visit Portman Road today.

After being replaced towards the end of the away clashes with Nottingham Forest and Peterborough, the former Luton player completed the entire 90 minutes of the home win over play-off hopefuls Bolton almost a fortnight ago.

Drury said: “In the first half of that game I thought I played quite well. I hadn’t played 90 minutes for two and a half months so it does catch up with you for the last 10 or 15 minutes.

“But I got through it and we earned the three points. It was a massive three points to be honest because when we got into the changing room we saw the results and again everyone had won so we realised how important it was.

“I think it’s a bit crazy really and I can’t remember any divisions like it in all the time I’ve been playing football. There are still about 12 teams that could still go down, all the way up to tenth place or something stupid like that.

“Hopefully we can do that over the weekend and get out of it as quickly possible, then we won’t have to worry for the remainder of the season.

“Overall, it has been very frustrating for me. I like to play football and after getting myself back into the team for five or six weeks I got a virus and didn’t really play for a couple of months, so it has been nice to play the last three games and to get some results as well.”

Meanwhile, Drury is not too concerned that Ipswich remain the Championship’s lowest-scoring team with just 36 goals in their 38 league fixtures so far.

He added: “I think we have five or six good Championship forwards here — Michael Chopra, David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy, Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble.

“We just need to get in a little rhythm and then hopefully the goals will flow.”
