Town Eyeing Pompey Youngster
Wednesday, 17th Apr 2013 20:10

TWTD understands that Town scouts have recently been regular visitors to Portsmouth with central or wide midfielder Jed Wallace believed to be the reason for their trips to Fratton Park. Wallace, 19, has also reportedly been watched by Stoke, Derby and Brighton this season.

Wallace was with Carshalton Athletic, Farnborough and Lewes as a youngster before joining Portsmouth in August 2011, signing a two-year deal with an option for a further season which Pompey have taken up.

Born in Reading, 5ft 10in tall Wallace spent time on loan back at Farnborough and then at Whitehawk before breaking into the Pompey side at the start of this campaign and has scored five goals in 18 starts and three sub appearances.

Meanwhile, released Blues youngster Gunnar Thorsteinsson played for Hermann Hreidarsson’s ÍBV in their 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth in a fundraising friendly on Tuesday. Thorsteinsson is set to sign a two-year deal with ÍBV ahead of the start of the Icelandic season next month.

Well I've noticed that he has scored a fair amount of pompey's goals over the last few months - so he knows where the net is.

With Edwards getting older and Martin not being very effective and probably on his way out, decent wingers have to be our priority this summer (assuming we sign most of the players we have on loan in other positions).

Didn't we once try and sign three Pompey players and get none not so long ago?? Hope we have better luck here! Assuming we do make a move of course.

Yes we did @whoisjimmyjuan

One plays for leeds who we beat 3 nil, one played for palace on tuesday night and we beat them 3 nil, and the last was Henderson who is no better than Loach and cannot kick at all!

Also live near Fratton, and indeed work two minutes from it, the Pompey season ticket holders I know have raved about this lad for a while, saying they want to keep him and he's good, since they've been talking about him, I've kept an eye and he's definitely worth a punt
Not sure of our chances, but glad to hear we are looking at good young players like this.
Lets hope we get him, always send him back on loan to Pompey as part of the deal, especially as they'll be short of cash

Hermann Hreidarsson bought for 4.5 million at Ipswich, sold to Charlton for 800,000. Portsmouth got him for free.

B1TFC - good on yer! Without the support of fans all over the country, our club would not exist. Hope you manage to get to PR for some games. I have supported the town for a lot more years than I care to remember and despite all the set backs, but remembering the good times, could never ever support anyone else!

From a pompey fans website:
"Jed Wallace: Clearly has a bright future due to his goalscoring ability, his passing range and his energy to get from box to box. Jed is out of contract in June and simply must be kept hold of to signal the club's intent next season. Verdict: Must do everything to keep."

Highly regarded by a number of their fans. To shine in a poor team is quite an achievement for a 19 year old. Although conflicting story with regards to his contract...

No Scowie I like in Poole near Bournemouth and know NOTHING about the guy ... don't even know where Fratton Park is ...... and come to think of it I don't really want to know either!!

Like the idea of a purchase and loan back deal which should be of interest to Pompy but can we afford to tie up money in this way???

Great but really want us to go for Forshaw at Brentford this summer. Really tidy little midfielder, just what we need to partner Hyam.
