No New Injuries But Martin to Miss Wednesday Trip
Thursday, 18th Apr 2013 14:57

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he has no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, although midfielder Lee Martin will remain behind to work on his fitness.

McCarthy said: “Everybody’s all right. Lee Martin’s OK, he’ll train tomorrow but he’s not going to travel because he’s only had 80 minutes against Millwall since [he was sent off against] Forest.

“He’s been ill and he’s had an ankle injury, so he’ll stay behind and train and play on Monday against Colchester [for the U21s]. Everybody else is all right.”

Striker Aaron Mclean hurt his foot in training earlier in the week, but the Blues boss says there’s no break: “I think he had an x-ray and it’s not broken anyway.

“We were worried that we might have to put an injection on it on Tuesday night, but I didn’t want to do that and then find that it didn’t work. He’s trained today. He’s OK, he’s fine.”

Paul Taylor (foot surgery) and Josh Carson (broken toe) are both ruled out for the season but are expected to be OK to start pre-season along with the rest of the squad.

That's a relief.

LM can go shopping for an 'end product' using his rather large wages and whilst hes there he can try and find a new club.

I am so buzzing for the trip Saturday! Lets take a massive atmosphere and bring the 3 points back! COYB's

Just think that hot headed response by Martin has probably cost him his place in the side for the rest of this season and maybe even his future Town career.

Dubious red card imo, let's see how Martin does in the U21s game.

Martin is gone. I have no doubt about that. Unless he accepts £7k a week on a two year deal, which I very much doubt he will.

£7k per week is too much.

In my view a first team player needs to be exceptional to be earning over £5k per week.

Which at £250k per year is still a huge wage.

Thank God! Our form was far worse with him in the team! adds nothing

A bit harsh to say he is useless. He does however seem to be an accident waiting to happen with injury illness send offs and bookings etc but you can't deny he works his socks off and he is the only player we have with any pace albeit with little end product. Not the best player in the world but not useless. You get the feeling MM likes him so would not be surprised if he stays as lets be honest where else will he find a fantastic deal now FFP is in operation.

I agree that £7k a week is too much. So is £5k a week. But my view doesn't take into account the going rates right now - and the fact that LM is already on £14/15k.

I'd be happy with just 1k a week never mind 5k just to play the odd football match and a bit of training. For £15k I'd play all day, all week, all year.

Great, the fans getting behind our players. When fans complain about loyalty from players, just remember comments like the above. Disgraceful, he's giving 100 percent for this club.

Sorry Earl60 Martin is not giving 100% for this club he is grasping as much as he can for the Lee Martin retirement fund. Yes he works his socks off, yes he has pace but outside of those two things what does he bring to the team? He can't cross a ball to save his life and he doesn't score goals. IMO he is very much surplus to requirements and should go somewhere else. In any event he is not worth whatever he is being paid.
We will be here long after Lee Martin is gone and forgotten, that's loyalty.

Spot on carsey! He's been a disaster area. Far more likely to get sent off than score. Micks got him sussed

Left behind to work on his......c.v hopefully. There is a young, upwardly mobile core emerging for next season ( Smith, Chambers, Cresswell, Hyam, Wordsworth, McGoldrick) but he is NOT part of it for sure. A dispassionate analysis of his 4 years at the club reveals a whole lot of nothing apart from headless chicken running and disciplinary idiocy. We should all just be grateful that the last example of the latter has not cost us our place in this Division. And whilst he's at it, he can take the domestic slapping (alleged) carthorse and the washed up bankrupt (proven) with him.

Martin has been a hard worker especially since PJ arrived; but I think his style doesn't match McCarthy's - I don't expect to see him as a Tractor Boy next year. I won't be devastated to see him go but will always wish him well in the future

I think most of us agree that it would be in everyone's interest if Lee Martin goes in the summer. He is not the quickest player we have - if you saw the way that Frank Nouble outstripped the Palace defenders on Tuesday, on more than one occassion, I think you will find he is the paciest player on the books.

I think Martin will surprise many if he stays next year, if he signs a new contract or leaves, he won't get a deal like the one he's had, in fact I can imagine there will be little interest from championship clubs based on his last 4 years. i think he will be better off taking a significant pay cut staying with itfc and be part of hopefully an exciting promotion chasing team.

Not going to re-open the Martin debate, but I just have a feeling we have seen the last of Lee Martin. Not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, but with just two to play after Saturday and out of contract, we may have seen the end of his ITFC career. Same applies to Drury.

We all have our views on Martin (just like Mrs T), and I have to say that I am not 100% that he is the real deal. However, if MM likes him and keeps him, then he must have something to offer. Time will tell.

Agree LM is away for sure. Disagree regarding his pace albeit the end product has been lacking he has got touch and ability and the likes of Murphy would get near Martin for pace. As for Nouble great pace but can't control a ball and the second touch is a tackle. For me Chopra Murphy N'Daw Carson can all close the door on the way out. Taylor will probably be eating porridge somewhere which is a shame as he looked the real deal so strikers with pace and creative midfielders are a must...

We certainly haven't got worse since Martin's absence - fact! who says he's on that salary?if he is on 7k a week then he can do one or expect a pay cut if he want's to stay here next season, but I don't think he'll be here next season.
