Emmanuel-Thomas: Time for New Adventure
Monday, 6th May 2013 12:45

Midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas says it’s “time for a new adventure” having been told he can move on by the Blues. The 22-year-old and striker Michael Chopra have been informed that they can leave Portman Road this summer if offers come in, despite having a year left on their contracts.

The former Arsenal youngster tweeted: “Time for a new adventure, had a great time but my time is up. #ThankYou”

Emmanuel-Thomas made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring nine goals, having joined from the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee which could ultimately have reached £2 million had various clauses been triggered. Chopra has already said he won’t necessarily be moving on.

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett and midfielder Andy Drury have been told they won’t be offered new terms when their contracts are up at the end of the season, while Lee Martin has rejected much-reduced new terms.

We understand keeper Jason Brown, who signed on a short-term deal in March, is now also set to be released.

Listen all of you!!!! He will never put the effort in anywhere he goes. He will undoubtably show pieces of skill and brillience once in a while wherever he goes but people get a grip we as a football club will not regret letting JET go what has he ever done for anyone to think that? If Arsene Wenger, SuperMick and superTC cant get the best out of him then who on eaeth do you think will. Get a grip. regret letting Rhodes go not JET

The man with the most ironic nickname in football!

The only way we could make him better would be to stick a JET up his ....

A likable guy with potential, but as many of you guys have been saying a luxury player at best. Eg I knew that at that Birmingham game as soon as he came on that would be the end of our dominance. Can't remember if it was for their goal or for a dangerous free-kick they won, but he gave the ball away up front, and made no effort to chase back despite being completely fresh, that led to one of their chances. Sorry Jay, best of luck for the future.

Mick, Mick, Mick. Stability is the key, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Don't think we'll see a lot of football next season, flair is not in Mick's vocabulary. Had high hopes for next season, OK he'll keep us up, maybe top half, but the old fox has certainly lost it here.

The only person who has lost it is you Earl60. The man has worked a minor miracle this season. Sure we ain't gonna play like Barcelona. We need a pragmatist and he's one. Results are what's needed first. Jets contribution is minimal. He's not needed

Let's be frank about this - he brought this upon himself. If he had bucked his ideas up earlier then he could have developed into one of our most exciting players for a good few years. Unfortunately his inconsistency will not do with Mick and so it is time for him to move on. I will always thank him for his outstanding performance in that 5-1 win against West Ham - a small insight into what he is capable of.

Now we must use the cash wisely. This sale, assuming it goes ahead, will allow Mick to have a bit more flexibility in the transfer market and could secure some better replacements for JET. Good luck for the future, unless that is you sign for another championship club and in which case the very worst of luck to you!

I agree with what everyone is saying. On his day I think he's a great player, and could turn into an even better one with the right coaching. A player who can turn a whole game around by a moment of magic.

Flashes of skill but we need 90 minute players not 90 second ones.
A full team of players committed to the shirt and we can go places with MM

.... I think this guy has had time and opportunity to put the effort in to be successful at this Club - it hasn't happened - he has often been non existant when given these opportunities.
Maybe this will be the wake up call he needs - and another Club will benefit - it just wasn't going to happen here.

We all move on - and hopefully to better things.

..... not so much a JET - more of a C130 for most of the time - Who is there out there who is capable of getting the undoubted talent and potential out of him ?? - has to be down to himself.

JET away to Southampton last year and Brighton this year put in really good shifts, thought his partnership with Edwards was OK, he is languid but I would not call him lazy. I think - like last year - he needed a run in the team (as per last year) as was excellent- and like Hyam got this year.

I trust McCarthy and feel it has been inevitable that this is happening, I guess bringing in workmanlike players like Tabb and losing Jet fits the McCarthy mold but Portman Road will be a hard place to visit if results do not go well (for Town fans)

Chopra needs to move on- lets hope we get break the recent trend and get at least some sort of fee for both

JET and Chopra have had their opportunity and it is the right move.

I hope JET has learnt from this and does become a better player. Chopra will wake up one day full of regret - a fool and his money is easily parted and Chopra will end up skint, his playing days behind him with the what only tag.

As some had said before the way it has been handled by each player is both the good and bad in football. JET class and Chopra Crass!

I also hope that the club gets back the £250k we loaned him for his gambling debts. Without interest that is 14weeks pay he is not entitled to.

Didn't MM say he wanted to keep the current team together and not make to many changes? not questioning the Super Mick but we have already got rid of 6 players..

I concurr with many of these posts in that I am sad to see JET leaving the club as he is an Enigma. Agree with the negatives that have been highlighted such as his workrate but he has got alot of quality but fails to deliver on a frequent basis. Agree his style is languid rather that lazy but on his day he is unplayable. Name a player in the Championship who can strike the ball better.
Disagree regarding the coaching of JET as he has to want to improve. You can preach all you like on the training ground but he's gotta want it. Not got the motivation or he would have made it at Arsenal where he was young player of the year. JET good luck and I hope you prove me wrong. You're an legend on your day..Thanks

I suspect that the people here who are upset at this lazy boy leaving, are the same who were upset when Fattie Bum-bum Counago was turfed out. Thomas won't be missed ; nor will Chopra or Martin.

Unfortunately JET flattered to deceive. There is undoubted talent there but his application was lacking.

The decision to let him go is the correct one.

Daleyitfc as usual another deep and meaningful post, you look like you've just finished your daily session of picking peanuts out of poo.

I would have given him another year as theres no doubt the boy has tons of ability.

In my opinion noone knows what his best position is, least of all him.

Could be a late bloomer and come good in a couple of years time especially if he does well in the lower leagues.

In my opinion a mistake, although who am I to criticise MM's excellent judgement since his arrival.

Personally believe both the decisions to let JET and Chopra go are correct...not the future for this club.

I will be sad to see JET leave because I thought with his grounding at Arsenal he would prove to be an exceptional player. Unfortunately we have only seen flashes of his potential and I was always of the opinion that Championship football is not for him!
Michael Chopra I feel has been unable to focus fully on football because of his " problems" off the pitch and this has been his downfall .
Lee Martin obviously doesn't feature in MM's plans only being offered a new contract on reduced terms! Just read that he has rejected this offer.
I wish them all well in their new ventures and now along with 1000's of other Town supporters hope that 2013/2014 will be our year ! Have a good summer!
