Clegg Appointed Badminton Chief
Thursday, 9th May 2013 09:55

Former Town chief executive Simon Clegg has been appointed the new chairman of Great Britain Badminton. Clegg left his role with the Blues in February and has since been working as a consultant to Madrid’s bid to stage the 2020 Olympic Games and will continue in that role.

Graeme Finch, GB Badminton interim chairman, said: “Simon’s understanding and contacts within the world of high performance sport both domestically and internationally are almost unparalleled.

“His leadership skills and clarity of vision will considerably strengthen GB Badminton as we strive for future success.”

Clegg added: “I am delighted and flattered to have been invited to lead GB Badminton through to Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

“I am under no illusions as to the scale of the challenge ahead in what is a highly competitive sport but it is a challenge that I am extremely excited by.

“Having personally witnessed British Badminton medals in previous Games, I look forward to being part of the team here and working with all the stakeholders, particularly UK Sport, the BOA and the home country associations, to give our players the best possible support in their quest for Olympic success.”

Just be glad we've now got straight talking Mick and no longer have to listen to all that Twenty Twelve BS.

I wish you the best of luck Simon. You are a nice bloke and a typical scapegoat. Sheepshanks in his time were also a scapegoat. Hope that badminton will get the best of you!

I had to give up playing badminton - too much shuttle and not enough c0ck.

Disgraceful appointment. Why are they hiring a football person to a job that needs a Badminton Man?

BlueBadger added 04:51 - May 10
It's clear to see that this appointment has been made with a view to securing corporate tickets for Ipswich Town Fc as opposed to any real interest by the board of GB Badminton. They'll probably sack him once Ipwich's romotion bid is over.
