Pablo the FA Cup Hero
Pablo the FA Cup Hero
Sunday, 12th May 2013 10:57

Former Blue Pablo Couñago was the FA Cup final hero in Hong Kong yesterday, lashing in a 25-yard strike just after half-time as his side Kitchee defeated Sun Pegasus 1-0. The 33-year-old joined Kitchee in October and has now netted 10 times.

Couñago, who also picked up the Most Valuable Player award and a HK$10,000 [£839] bonus, in addition to HK$150,000 [£12,583] for winning the trophy, was delighted: "It's a great feeling. It's not only for me, but for the fans and the club."

Kitchee are also battling on other fronts and face an Asian Football Confederation Cup round of 16 match away against Malaysian club Kelantan this week before a domestic Super Cup play-off.

Couñago, who was previously playing in Vietnam with Đồng Tâm Long An, is out of contract at the end of the month and is unsure whether he will be staying with Kitchee.

The Spaniard's second spell with the Blues came to an end in the summer of 2011 when he was released having spent the previous season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Pablo @ Ying Tong Utd and Priskin at Russia Div 2 sums them up nicely

I was at this game, as well as a Kitchee match last week (he came on as a sub and was invisible). Pablo actually played pretty poorly yesterday and disappeared for long stretches. His goal though, was an absolute cracker. The goal was against the run of play.

One of my favourites, but amazing to see him run out of gas and quickly fall so low when he should have still been in his prime.

Always thought we should have played Fat-Bottomed Girls on the tannoy whenever he came on. Utterly awful player. Surprised he's good enough for Honk-Honk.

Lazy hysterical primadonna who would spent more time on his arse shouting at refs whilst at Portman Road.

Daley - the fact that you thought he was an awful player fills me with happiness. Great player, who was vastly under-rated and under used in his time here. Should have been played just behind a front one or two where he would have flourished.

He was a very talented player, good to still see regardless of level he's scoring.

Extremely talented when it came to falling over, moaning at the ref or wasting chances! Ridiculously over-rated by so many on here

Ole Ole Pablo, well done..

One of the most gifted players in Town's modern era, all you negative posters know nothing about football.!

(Maybe they are Alan Lee fans)

Some utterly clueless people on here. Pablo was a great find by us, ok he didnt always have a great game but he was very good at holding up the ball and getting players into the game. Nice to see him with a club now

Such a shame that someone who played in over 200 games for town and scored over 50 goals aswell, and for the most part for a club going through big transitions at the time, that some mornoic fans still find it funny to belittle players like this. Well done Pablo and as always, all the best wherever your future lies.
