Town Linked With Kilgallon
Wednesday, 29th May 2013 14:43

Town are reported to be in talks with released Sunderland central defender Matthew Kilgallon.

The 29-year-old, who has also played at left-back, started his career at Leeds, spending time on loan at West Ham while with the Whites.

In January 2007 York-born Kilgallon joined Sheffield United for an initial fee of £1.75 million, where he made 124 starts and two sub appearances, scoring twice, before moving to Sunderland on a Bosman in the summer of 2010.

The 6ft 2in tall defender made only 24 starts and two sub appearances in three years with the Black Cats, during which time he spent short spells on loan at Middlesbrough and Doncaster.

His release, along with that of former Blue Titus Bramble, was confirmed by Sunderland yesterday.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy looks set to add central defenders to his squad this summer as cover for first-choice pair Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers. However, given his experience, Kilgallon would seem more likely to be looking for a club where he will play more regularly.

Saw he was released yesterday and thought he'd be a potentially good player for town so i'm happy with this. If sensible wages definitely sign him up.

As soon as I saw he'd been released I thought he would make a great signing. I Remember him being extremely solid for Sheff Utd, and hopefully being out of the first team picture for a while has increased his desire to succeed. Although would he displace Smith/Chambers?

Probably just another rumour though...

I'm not sold on Chambers so getting another solid defender in would be a very positive move.

Looks like Sean Murray will be without a club soon! If it's really true would place this player on red alert now . He was a real talent coming through only year ago but then the Undineses arrived at Vicarage Road. ONLY 19!! http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/sean-murray/profil/spieler_148907.html

He is also in talks with Leeds and Middlesborough so don't get too excited just yet!

He also plays at right back and would be a great signing but guess better terms will be on offer elsewhere.

Sort of player we need in team/squad if looking to push into playoffs next season. Be good at this level and could mean chambers at right back. Gives us strong options.
Titus Bramble anyone? Would stand out at this level at CB or even as holding midfielder, Would have to take less money though? Then again currently on nothing as released.

Bramble off to the States apparently. Kilgallon I'm not sure about. Doesn't ever seem to quite settle anywhere.

Is he a good left back? Is he a natural left back?

Yeah decent player would do a job for us!
Still would like Stearman to be here.

Think he's a good player but i can see him earning big bucks which may put us off when we only want him as cover.

Really good player - I wonder if Cresswell will move on? If so, expect MM will want some experience at LB. However, we clearly need CB cover as well. Salary could be an issue.

Would be very good as back up to Chambers & Smith, assuming we're not going in for Stearman?

Wow, did a comment every get -10 that quickly! Titus might be good at championship level and he is only 31. He has played over 300 games in the prem (and was once Wigan's player of the season!)

Wd be a very good addition! Very good and with mick as boss he will improve dramatically! Look wot he done for chambers and smith - were heros when getting us out the mire last season! I know mick is a 442 man but I'd wonder whether he wil go 352 depending on what players he manages to sign and push cress well into a five man midfield! Sign stearman and with mings as back up the defence is looking pretty solid

Kilgallon one of the silly 'look at how much dosh I've got brigade' with Bardsley and McClean.. causing fallout with Mr DiCanio.. hope he has grown up a bit! Good player until he left Sheff utd.. not sure why it's gone ti*s up since

Would rather have Titus than Kilgallon

Would be a good back up to smith and chambers but his wages on the bench would not help at all when they could be spent on good quality, starting 11, new signings.

But if we could get him on low wages he would be a good buy!

I would rather have Stearman than both Bramble and Kilgallon. If I had to have one of Bramble or Kilgallon, I would rather have Bramble.
