Second St Mirren Midfielder Linked
Wednesday, 29th May 2013 15:32

Town are eyeing out-of-contract St Mirren midfielder Paul McGowan, according to reports in the Scottish media.

McGowan, 25, started his career at Celtic and made three starts and five sub appearances for the Bhoys.

The Bellshill-born playmaker spent time on loan at Greenock Morton, Hamilton and St Mirren while at Parkhead and joined the Buddies on a full-time basis in July 2011.

In March he helped the Paisley side to win the Scottish League Cup by beating Hearts 3-2 in the final.

St Mirren boss Danny Lennon has previously dismissed reports linking the Blues with another of his midfielders, Kenny McLean.

Don't know this player myself, but looking at the st mirren forums, they couldnt sing his praises high enough, and many are considering him there player of the year.

Hunt, Tabb, Mclean, McGowan, Kilgallon, Spurr, Judge, Broadfoot, some bloke from So'ton, Stearman, Ebanks-Blake, Camp, Uncle Tom Cobbly and all....... who else? Is that the lot?

Just tell me when we sign a player.

Definitely need some creativity and can't imagine he's on a massive amount of money so why not?

A good prospect. I saw him play when I was living in Glasgow a few years ago.

On the subject of another keeper, gosport boroughs Nathan ashmore is attracting interest from Pompey Bournemouth and Walsall. The club has just been promoted to conference south and they are not asking for a lot of money for him. I watch this team every week and he is a supers keeper. Let me know when it's July the 1st why would we sign them now and pay their wages for doing nothing?

I like the McGowan link, sounds like he's feisty yet gets on the ball and makes things happen in a struggling side. Despite their cup success St Mirren finished second from bottom in the SPL.

Not sure on the McPhail suggestion on here, he's 34 this year and has made 17 starts in the last two years and hasn't scored in the last 3 seasons, only assisting one goal.

Ambrose, however, is another proposition entirely. He had an injury plagued season last year but before then he scored and assisted at a rate per games more akin to a striker: http://espnfc.com/player/_/id/8125/darren-ambrose?cc=5739
