McCarthy: Taylor Will Be Ready for Start of Season
Thursday, 27th Jun 2013 06:00

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he expects striker Paul Taylor to be ready for the start of the new season. The 25-year-old, who was handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm earlier in the week, joined the Blues for an initial £1.5 million from Peterborough in August last year but managed only three games before a serious foot injury ruled him out for the season.

McCarthy said: “He’s getting there. Throughout the close season I had updates on him and a couple of weeks ago he had his boots on for the first time.

“I think that was a bit of a thrill for him because you get to the stage where you stagnate a little bit when you’re recuperating.

“Then you get little breakthroughs and that was another one for him, having been wearing training shoes all the time and then kicking a ball. He was out training with the lads [on Monday] morning and the physios will monitor him.

“It’s different once the squad starts and you start training and there’s physical contact. But he’ll be ready for the start of the season, I’m sure.”

As long as he stays fit, will be like a new signing.

Taylor knows he had a lot to prove this season and I hope he does for us and for him. In fairness we have a good crop of strikers this season; Taylor, Chopra, McGoldrick, Mariott (I'd not be surprised to see some loan interest here) Nouble, Murphy. If we find the missing link in midfield over the summer I say BRING IT ON! COYB

Looking forward to see what taylor can do, hope he is worth £1.5 million, hoping he now puts the injury behind him and helps the team try to go up! COYB

wkj.... when you say we have a good crop of strikers..... please don't include that one that most town fans totally despise.

Taylor just behind the front two he seems to like to run a the defence, think Nouble will do well this year as he was looking good towards the end of the season

Pity he's a scouser-always seem to be trouble. Look at PJ, nearly wrecked the club. At least Hewitt came from the other side of the Mersey.

@Mr_Jingles I don't particularly care for Chopra (that's who I assume you're referring to) either, but I have to be honest, he is capable if he get his finger out and his head straight- how likely is it that will happen? That's up to him but I will always ALWAYS hope at the bottom of my heart any player who is in a blue shirt will be a success, regardless of how big a so-en-so they've been

Also Chopra will want to perform well this season to put himself in the shop window for when his contract is done.

Perhaps he will stretch himself on the pitch instead of doing a stretch .....

Taylor will seem like a new signing, looked lively in the 2 or 3 games he played for us, interesting to see where Mick plays him as I think he can be played out wide too.

Why shouldn't he be fit? he's been out long enough, there was talk at the end of the season that he was back in training so that was obviously incorrect!

Karlosfandangal totally agree that behind the front 2 would be taylors best position but for that we would have to swich from 442 which i dont see mick doing and to be fair to mick 442 has done well for him.
to have that position available we would have to swich to 4231 or play 3 centre halves with wing backs and play him in the middle of the 2 central midfielders and the 2 strikers.

MM might still get the best out of Chopra if he stays. I think its 'all or nothing' with MM !
