McGoldrick to Finally Sign
Monday, 1st Jul 2013 06:00

Striker David McGoldrick will finally put pen to paper on his long-agreed two-year contract with the Blues today, having joined on an initial loan from Nottingham Forest in January. Cole Skuse, Jay Tabb and Daryl Murphy also formally become Town players today with their deals at their previous clubs having come to an end at midnight.

Having spent the first half of 2012/13 on a half-season loan at Coventry, where he scored 17 times, McGoldrick joined Town on a 93-day loan in January, the longest period permitted.

After scoring four goals in 13 starts and one sub appearance for Town, the 25-year-old’s spell came to an end, but he remained training at Playford Road for the remainder of the season with the Blues continuing to pay his wages until the end of his Forest contract.

McGoldrick and the rest of the new signings will be with the Town squad which travels to Ireland today for their training camp at Carton House in County Kildare, where the Irish Open golf was staged at the weekend and where Mick McCarthy has previously taken Wolves.

The Blues will play only the one friendly while in Ireland, against Dublin side Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Saturday (KO 5pm).

We understand that youngsters David October, Amir Berkane and Kyle Hammond are amongst those making the trip.

Left-back October is one of the five second-year scholars from last year who has agreed a one-year professional deal, while midfielder Berkane and right-back Hammons will be second year scholars during the season ahead.

Why haven't we bought an entire squad of loan players this season? I don't understand....

Big, big player for us next season. Hopefully MM and TC saw enough end of last season to work out his preferred partner. My guess is Murphy and him will lead the attack and Nouble will work from the bench again. Can't imagine MM would go for two small men up front by playing Taylor there.

Good, hopefully Taylor plucks up with a few and seems we may have chops as a choice from the bench. Hopefully a cocktail for some goals!

@theobald1985

I agree. I saw Nouble/McGoldrick at Peterborough away last season and i know they aren't a great team but they caused carnage up front together. If Nouble can add finishing to his strength and pace he could be a hell of a player for us. Looking forward to 3rd August now!

Agree. Could be a big player for us. Any truth in Lewis McGugan signing on a free?

Makes a change that we have a manager who signed players in Jan and played them to see how they got on. They have signed these players quick instead of the Bullard wait.

Hopefully these players have found their feet and will hit the ground running

Anyone thinks MM and TC could opt for 4-3-3 next season?
Tabb - Skuse - Hyam in the middle
Murphy - McGoldrick - Taylor up front
That would be one hell of a threat for most of Championship defenses and still pretty well covered middle of the park defensively.

I hope I'm proved wrong but McGoldrick lacks pace and is only average and Tabb looks like a little boy chasing shadows in a grown ups football team. I like Frank and think he could be a quality player in the future. Please sign Stearman he will be key to us doing well this saeson.

Great news, McGoldrick will be a great player for us next year. Scored some crucial goals at the end of the season. Now we have 4 solid striking options: McGoldrick, Murphy, Taylor and Nouble.

How were we allowed to pay his wages up to end of his contract but unable to play for us as he was contracted to forest and he hadn't signed a contract with us Till today? Honestly can't get my head around the while thing surely some rules must of been broken? But look forward to him and nouble with Taylor lurking behind them two with hyam cole and tabb holding the midfield together
