Chopra Rules Out Loan and Pay Cut
Monday, 1st Jul 2013 09:24

Striker Michael Chopra has ruled out a move away from the Blues on loan during the season ahead and says he wouldn’t be willing to take a pay cut to join another club on a permanent basis. Chopra and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas were told they could find new clubs at the end of 2012/13 with the former Arsenal man believed to be ready to take a drop in wages in order to sign for Bristol City in a swap deal which would see Robins winger Paul Anderson move the other way.

Answering fans’ questions on Twitter, Chopra said he wants to play regularly but doesn’t want to go out on loan at this stage of his career: “I do want to play every week but not as a loan player. [I] won't be going on loan, I'm 29 not 17 anymore.”

The former Cardiff man, who like Emmanuel-Thomas has a year left on his Town contract, has stated on previous occasions that it’s down to him whether he leaves the Blues and says the same would be the case regarding a loan: “[I] won't go on loan, it's down to the player not the football club.”

While Emmanuel-Thomas is believed to be ready to take a drop in pay to move to Bristol City, Chopra, who was linked with Spartak Moscow and Bursaspor last week, says he won’t be following suit: “Why would I take a pay cut just coz I'm a footballer? People expect me to, would anyone else who's not a footballer take one?”

Emmanuel-Thomas, who we understand was initially a Robins loan target in January, is expected at Ashton Gate today for talks with the swap deal expected to go through in the next couple of days.

Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that both players would still be in with a chance of getting into his team if they remained at Portman Road: “I don’t do any of that bombing them into the stiffs. What’s the point? If they’re here, they’ve got to be earning their keep.”

Elsewhere, former loanee Reece Brown is with the Watford squad on their pre-season training camp in Italy. The Blues were understood to have shown interest in the 21-year-old, who was released by Manchester United at the end of the season, returning to Portman Road on a full-time basis earlier in the summer.

Greedy Sod. How about he pays back the money the club helped him out with?

Show some footballing intent, and then you wouldn't have been asked to leave. It's that simple son. Stop tweeting bollox about your long ago Newcastle days and think Ipswich.

Shows his level of sense and honour !!! It should be possible for ME to find a way of shunting him out , with all of his behavioural problems , in a legal way .

This bloke is so divorced from reality he may as well be on the moon.

Very soon, well 12 months to be precise, he will find his true value as a footballer, and that will be 25% of his current wage.

He should knuckle down, earn his money, and earn a contract with another club.

There is always 1 dim witted plonker who can't see the obvious. Never mind, we will titter a lot when he's offered £500 per week to play in League 2 next year.

Can't the Club just take back the money they invested in him off the pitch? Let him sweat for a couple of months without his paychecks greedy b****rd...

At the end of the day the club offered him the contract, if you believe all the stories of his finances then why would he take a pay cut.

I would say not a single fan would take a pay cut at their jobs, However not many fans are on 10 to 20k a week for doing a job most people do as a hobbie

Surly it's better to take a drop in wages now then 12 months time when the prospect of no club taking a risk on him the way he's sounding. At least he can earn a few bob with the plumbing course he's done.

Yes they would, i know two people (one of whom is my wife) who have taken pay cuts in the last 18 months in order to keep their jobs.

Michael.... in 12 months time you will take a MASSIVE pay cut!! No one will want you.

Just to explain this in simple terms, the idea is that you take a contract elsewhere on as much money as you can get, and negotiate a pay off from ITFC to cover your losses.

Pretty simple really!!

Whats age got to with it ? A loan move could re-kindle his career and prompt a transfer couldnt it ? What age was Magilton when he joined us on loan !!
As a player i rate Chopra when he has his head right, as a person he really is a waste of time.
Sit in the reserves and pick up your pay then, that will make it so much easier for you to find a club in a years time wont it !!

its such a shame and a waste that chopra has this attitude problem.

he is a very capable player and in years to come will look back with regret at the way his promising career has panned out.

of course he will be wealthy as long as he stays out of the bookies but money is not everything and think when he eventually matures he will regret many decisions he has made.

will still support him if he walks out in a town shirt but he has a huge amount to prove to us fans.

i live in hope

Hmmm i dont know Michael, maybe because this club took a gamble on you (sorry, excuse the pun) and you have repaid us by having a thug turn up at training demanding cash (WHICH THE CLUB PAID !!) , then you got barred from horse racing for fixing races, then you gob off on Twitter and waste the club's money sending you to USA . Thats why !!
Have some decency and at the same time it might save a career that is nose diving fast.

Unfortunately Chopra your not good enough now to play regularly every week, certainly not at this club and the only way you might achieve that is to go out on loan and that will probably be at a club lower than the status of Ipswich (perhaps a team which will be happy to stay in the Championship). He really needs to get his head out of his as*e.

I think you're all hypocrites if you say you would take a pay cut "for the club" especially when you are near the end of your career and you have spanked all your cash away on gambling. He may, or may not, be a nice person, but people who accuse him of being delusional are themselves being delusional.
Chopra needs to get off twitter though. It does him no good.

He's not obliged to be a role model for children, and he's not obliged to take a pay cut. He's got a contract - that's what contracts are for. Yeah, he sounds a right idiot, but I don't begrudge him his right to make full use of the contract both parties signed. I would.

Anyone else who is not a footballer would have been sacked for underperformance a long time ago.

I have never disliked any other town player before (ok, Andy Marshall for obvious reasons), but Chops really has tested me. He is an absolute disgrace of a 'man'!

I think this is going to be controversial but here goes... i get the impression TWTD and those who run this site which over way too many years i have used as an invaluable source of information.. are letting there personal oppionions get in the way when reporting information about Chopra.

It is always from a negative view point and almost done to raise the anger felt by Town fans towards him.

would rather drink a pint of runny poo then see the gremlin in the town blue again

not so sure about that

phil has only reported what was said and think chopra paints the portrait entirely by his own words and actions

phil has not stated any personal opinion in the reports that i can recollect.
