McGoldrick Deal Signed
Thursday, 4th Jul 2013 13:05

Town have confirmed that striker David McGoldrick has signed a two-year permanent contract at Portman Road. The 25-year-old agreed the terms of the deal in January but was unable to formalise the contract until his time at Nottingham Forest was officially at an end.

Having spent the first half of 2012/13 on a half-season loan at Coventry, where he scored 17 times, McGoldrick joined Town on a 93-day loan in January, the longest period permitted.

After scoring four goals in 13 starts and one sub appearance for Town, his spell came to an end, but he remained training at Playford Road for the remainder of the season with the Blues continuing to pay his wages until the end of his Forest contract on Sunday.

McGoldrick is currently with the rest of the Town squad at their training camp at Carton House in County Kildare.

Good feeling about this guy. One of the most skilled strikers we've had since Stewart.. and look what happened then.

Good news. Would genuinely rather sign him than Campbell.

Him and Nouble will be some force next season.

Brrriiiiiillant!! I also have a really good feeling about DMG. I wouldn't be surprised if he forms a lethal partnership with Paul Taylor (just behind) and Frank Nouble. I'm not gonna try and tell MM and TC how to organise formations. Now MM and TC need to get some more gems in and really strengthen the squad in all areas. COYB!!

Good news. Think he is a very talented player.

However, still concerned that other reported 'targets' are joining other clubs. Good we have signed three players who were with us last season - but in terms of new blood - just the one so far. Still need a few more.

Great news - holds the ball up well and will hopefully score plenty of goals for us.

Looks like the team is shaping up.

McGoldrick and Taylor are quite similar in terms of bringing other players into play. Loved watching him last season, and he doesn't even need to jel in much either! I also like the thought of having Nouble & McGoldrick up top with Taylor in behind. Still think we need a winger, right back and goalkeeper and we are there.

II'm confident about him and Taylor being a right handful for defences in this campaign... with Nouble's trickery on the Bench as support - this WILL be our year!

jas0999: I hate to agree with you but in this case I have to. Many links: Kilgannon, Forrester, DJ Campbell. . . the list goes on.

Would love to know if there is any truth in all these rumours.

Not feeling great about McGoldrick. Only 4 goals scored is a poor return from someone who was banging in 20 for Coventry before us. I think he might suffer a further reduction in goals scored this season - I'd rather see us sign Dean Bowditch myself.

I have been waiting for this confirmation and am well pleased that we have his signature now, McGoldrick, Taylor and Murphy going forward will be a real threat to any opposition I think.

I say with Murphy in the middle feeding off McGoldrick and Nouble with Talyor being a good back up striker because he has been out of the game for quite a while, That will be a tough strike force to break down.

Great signing, reminds me a lot of Marcus Stewart. It seems to me MM mostly gets the players he wants, a lot of players we are so called linked with are stories put about by agents.

Excellent player in my opinion. He's got a bit of technical ability, intelligence and vision. I think he will create as many as he scores.

I like McGoldrick, but he's not going to score 20 goals...just before people start going over the top.
