Blues Amongst Clubs Linked With Coventry Defender
Thursday, 4th Jul 2013 16:39

Town, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Derby are all reported to be showing interest in Coventry City right-back Cyrus Christie. The 20-year-old is still in contract with the League One club, who are in the process of exiting administration.

Christie came through the youth system at his hometown club and established himself in their first team in the 2011/12 season, following loan spells at Blue Square Bet North sides Nuneaton and Hinckley during the previous campaign.

A nephew of former boxers Errol and Lloyd Christie, the 6ft 2in tall defender has made 66 starts and 13 sub appearances for the Sky Blues, scoring three goals.

With Richard Stearman having returned to parent club Wolves at the end of the season, Town are in need of another right-back to compete with Elliott Hewitt, although a Bosman signing — such as former Blackpool man Kirk Broadfoot or ex-Southend defender Sean Clohessy — would appear more likely than a deal where a fee would be involved.

However, Blues boss Mick McCarthy is likely to have seen a fair bit of Christie having watched Coventry regularly last season while weighing up a move for striker David McGoldrick during his spell on loan with the Sky Blues.

Meanwhile, ex-Town loanee Bilel Mohsni is on trial in Scotland with Rangers having left Southend at the end of the season.

Mick has obviously watched him a fair bit and thinks he could be good enough, will have to see what happens

Without knowing much about him, he sounds like a fairly good player, as do all the other players we've been 'linked' with, which I suppose is a good thing. I would probably prefer to see Hewitt given a run in the 1st team or a more experienced head brought in for next season if I'm being honest.

Can't see us wanting two young right backs on our books. Not sure if we'll make a move here.

butterbing. I think youll find that walberswick was being the total ass he always is and suggesting were gonna be relegated this season thus building for lge1. the kind of fan this club can do without. or maybe hes just a kid who doesn't know ne better.

Sounds promising. Poor old Coventry, though. The ground share with Northampton must be eating their fans alive. So sad to see a club disintegrate as they have.

Re arc's comments, wasn't so long ago Pompey were a premiership team, wonder if old twitchy Redknapp had any thing to do with their demise, bet he made some money out of it. At least we aren't in that predicament although I don't feel ME bought the club because of his love of football, think he saw an investment here. His company does niow own the Playford Road ground, prime development area??

I dont think we are in need of a young right back to compete with Hewitt.

Yes we need cover as we have a small squad, but we will never have two players specific to each position.

However, we do have Chambers, Skuse and Edwards who can fill in.

Rangers? That's quite a drop down for Mohsni from Southend Reserves.

walberswick, there are really good therapists available nowadays who could probably assist you with your condition.

Glass half full! :-)))

Agree with the others about walberswick, never seen anyone so negative. Might be a budgie in disguise.

Christie sounds useful but I think Hewitt should be given a chance to make the right back spot his own. Sad to read the news about Coventry ground sharing today. Proper football club. Feel for their fans.

Cyrus the virus christie,! Seriously quite depressing being linked to players where fees involved that quite frankly we ain't ever gonna be spending money on. Seems MM constantly looking in the bargain bin, but he ain't got the money to spend, even on wages!

A lot of right backs being linked with Town. Doesn't look like a deal can be done for Stearman.

Haven't we already got a promising young right-back? If we do decide to put a bid in for him I can't see Stearman coming this way.

Still think stearman may be back as wolves signed Sam rickettsi today, but then with Berra leaving,Johnson on list kenny jackett may play him as centre back, hopefully if mm perseveres may bear fruit later preseason.

Mick and Terry know more about football than any of us 'numpties' on here.

How about we let them get on with buying players and running the team and we'll do the supporting....................Novel idea but will probably never catch on!!!!!

Saw this guy play quite a few times when he was on loan at Nuneaton. He's certainly a class above non-league and looked like he had the potential to make it at the higher level, although with some rough edges. Given the coaching and guidance he needs, which he would certainly get under MM and TC, I think he's a really good prospect and just the sort of player we should be looking at.

Great Post from Algarvefan that I completely agree with! We might all be great at Football Manager from the comfort of our own armchairs but in reality we know next to sod all compared with MM & TC (and that includes even you h32!) Let's concentrate on the supporting bit while those that know what they are doing get on with the running a team bit!

Looking forward to the Crawley game next week (just a small Town near Gatwick)
