JET: O'Driscoll a Big Factor
Monday, 8th Jul 2013 17:22

Former Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas says the chance to work under Sean O’Driscoll at Bristol City was a big influence on his decision to join the Robins. The 22-year-old, who completed a swap involving winger Paul Anderson earlier today, previously played for O’Driscoll during a loan spell at Doncaster while an Arsenal player.

Emmanuel-Thomas said: "He had a big influence on my decision to come here as I know how he likes to play and I know what he expects of me.

"I had a really good spell with him at Doncaster. I thought by returning to him I could get back to how I was."

The former Gunners youngster tweeted his thanks to everyone at Portman Road: “Thank you to all the people at Ipswich Town Football Club who helped me along the way. Wish you all the best.”

Meanwhile, keeper Owain Fon Williams has signed a new two-year deal with his current club Tranmere, despite interest from the Blues and other Championship clubs this summer.

Rovers boss Ronnie Moore said: “Owain has had two really good seasons with Tranmere, so I’m pleased he will be staying with us

“He’s turned down good offers from the Championship to stay with us, which shows how committed he is to doing well here.”

He scored 5 in 14 on the wing under O'Driscoll in the Championship!

Now he's in League One don't be surprised if we're ruing this later on! I hope we've put a sell-on clause of at least 20%+ but I doubt it!

£1.5 million+ down the absolute swanny!

Holy Lantern!

Off the wage bill so good move.

Can't help thinking that there could have been more from JET. don't waste the talent you have kid.

I hope does well and does get back to how he was(whatever that was). but the only person who can make that happen is jet himself. he will have to change his attitude or he'll be no different there to how he was here ad elsewhere. some1 I know at the arsenalacademy said when he signed for us that he could, on ability be 1 of the best players in the world, but his attitude was tgood enough. much the same as I think we saw in his time here. frankly, unless that changes, he'll be no different wherever he goes

blues1 - agree with you - should have made more of the opportunity he had at Arsenal and with us.

Only he can make it happen - much potential, as yet to be realised.

pazelle, what a surprise, being negative as always. no, we wont be rueing this even if he does perform for Bristol. weve signed a much better player imo. if he should perform in lge 1 itll prob be because hell have found his level. but I suspect the Bristol fans will be saying much the same as our fans have this time next year, that he has great ability and potential but his attitude stinks and he only performs very occasionally.

Sad to see him go, but the reality is he simply didn't do enough to impress MM or indeed PJ - who also dropped him. Such a shame, because as h32 and others have said, he has the potential. It's now up to HIM to make his potential a reality.

Best of luck to him, but I suppose, at the end of the day, it's a good move for all parties. We all move on.

Blues1 - I'm being realistic, we should have a percentage sell on fee for a 22 year old who still has massive potential regardless of how he did here. I haven't seen Anderson play yet and I hope he does well obviously, all I'm saying is that if JET's going to amount to anything we should have a slice!

can see your point pazelle but somehow I doubt that Bristol would have agreed to a sell on clause on a player who arrived as a straight swap for one of their players. doubt wed have asked neither. could be wrong of course. but anyway, I doubt that that situation will come in to play as cant see him suddenly changing his attitude which is his problem. hes clearly stated that people have to take him how he is(laid back). that attitude will get him nowhere. so think its immaterial at the end of the day

Thanks Jay, we wish you all the best too.

I suppose if we asked for a sell-on for Emmanuel-Thomas, Bristol C would have wanted likewide for Anderson. I expect these sort of details will remain 'undisclosed'.

Bad attitude and no work ethic-these are the reasons why JET has dropped another league. Thanks MM and TC for shifting such players out of Portman Rd.

Obviously the night life in Bristol is far far superior to Ipswich otherwise he would not have dropped down a division. What happened to Fulham showing an interest?

If he put as much effort into twitter and clubbing then maybe he would still be a Town player. Can see him drifting into oblivion in Div 1

They all say this just to get in the new managers good books...wouldn't surprise me if he finds his level now in League one.

Folks, don't worry about a sell on clause, Emmanuel-Thomas won't ever fetch big bucks, he's another Danny Haynes.

how is good that we got him off the wage bill if we paid his last years wages straight up!

I think this was bad business. Paid off his contract, no cash for him, got an average player in a straight swap (another one covered in tattoos), a winger to lump the ball in to the target man. Its an indication of how we're going to play. I think JET will blossom under O'Driscoll, some one who likes to play football

hegansheroes. clearly you know nothing about Anderson, who is a good player, certainly better than jet. ok, not so flashy with his footwork as jet can be at times but has an end product which jet rarely had in his time here. paying off his contract was equal to paying a fee for Anderson, so no financial loss there neither. as for your comment about a winger lumping the ball in to a target man? are you totally out of touch? everyone has been saying we need a winger to get crosses in to the box which is what a winger does(doesn't lump it in the box). weve now got 1 for the 1st time in ages and you having a go at him before hes even kicked a ball for us. really do wonder what some of our so called fans want

In fairness to JET he has taken a drop in wage and level to get more first teams games and push him self on as a player. At Doncaster O Driscoll could build his team around JET and maybe thats what JET needs to get his confidence up and back to his best. I will be keeping an eye on JET and Doncasters form this season.

All the best JET!

" I thought by returning to him I could get back to how I was "

Speaks volumes, always expecting others to get the performances out of him, rather than actually applying a little effort himself. An undoubted talent, but a lazy wasteful one.
Cheerio.

Must be good for rap music in Bristol, good luck in the future Jet.

Good luck Jay, sure your talents will be more appreciated at Bristol, plus playing every week for a manager that allows a player to express himself, and play a footballing game, rather than robot football can only benefit you.
