Ainsley Joins Lowestoft
Sunday, 14th Jul 2013 21:42

Released Blues defender Jack Ainsley has signed a two-year deal with Ryman League Premier Division Lowestoft Town.

The 22-year-old from Felixstowe joins his brother Stuart and a number of other former Town academy products at Crown Meadow.

Former England U17 international Ainsley, who ended last season on loan at Chelmsford, made five senior starts and three sub appearances for the Blues and also spent time on loan at Histon and Rushden and Diamonds.

Sorry it didn't work out at ITFC but glad he's joined the next best team in Suffolk.

I am really disappointed with this. Thought he was pretty decent when I saw him but agree with you Millsey as I get along to Crown Meadow when ever I can so be interesting to see how he gets on. Hopefully the Trawler Boys will get that promotion in 2014.

Surprised he has dropped to this level, surely a good league 1 player? great signing for Lowestoft though.

With all respect for Lowestoft, after seeing Ainsley play on numerous occasions, you would think he could easily play at league 1? Maybe not a team challenging for promotion, but a newly promoted side? Think Lowestoft have had a great signing! Nobody will be able to score haha, guaranteed promotion maybe?

Wow! Just goes to show how hard it is to move from the youth team into the first team. Good luck to him

Maybe, being a nice guy like I think he is, maybe he just wants to get his brothers team promoted and stay in the local area? Still seems strange to me!

It's always sad to see a player we had high hopes for drop do wn to non league football, but as Tractorog says, it shows the gulf between the Youth team & senior level. He's a good young player & I would expect him to make his way back to a league club in a couple of years - good luck to him.
Of the remaining youngsters, I've been most impressed with Byron Lawrence, David October & of course Jack Marriot and would hope to see them break into the match day squad a few times in the season ahead; who knows though, the chances of promising young players becoming first team regulars are not good. Luke Hyam will surely testify as to how difficult it is to establish yourself. At least Mick & TC are the kind of management team to bring forward & encourage talent.

I saw him play for Chelmsford against Tonbridge, and he was probably their worst player. That said, he might have lost his confidence knowing he was going to be released by town. Joe Whight was an unused sub in the same game. I guess it says something about their standards. On the other hand, Ainsley had a decent game at right back last season. But wasn't given the chance to shine in a string of games. Ainsley has been on the edge of being relased for some years now, and at the age of 22 it's time for him to find his feet and play first team football week in week out. I'll probably try to get a game at Lowestoft the upcoming season as they a bunch of our former youths, Erkan Okay, Stuart Ainsley, Scott Mitchell, Andrew Plummer and Curtley Williams.

This starkly shows how far short he is of playing at our level.

I think this is his level actually. I saw him play a few times for both Ipswich and Histon and I don't think he's close to League one standard. Nice turn of pace but not good enough at reading the game.

@Fartman - aaah, so Okay has rocked up at Lowestoft has he? He'd developed into a midfield enforcer/general at Histon. Quite a good one too. I observed a few of his colleagues receiving a rollocking from him when their level dropped. Just what each team needs.

Fartman... I think you may have a point here. With absolutely no disrespect to Lowestoft, the fact that he has ended up here rather than a League 1 club, does pose the question whether the academy are producing the right calibre of players and whether these payers are actually as good as we want them to be. This may be why so few get through to the establish themselves in the first team.

Hopefully the recent restructuring of the academy will see things improve.

cantagree with all this gulf between first team and senior team nonsense.
these young players are just not given a chance like they used to be.
managers fear the sack so much that they dare not give a young player a run.
we see loads of players released and go into the non league and end up being brought back to league football.
the FA need to introduce a rule that forces at least a couple of players in the starting line up to come through the academy.
i do wonder whether players like gavind johnson or scowcroft for example would have been relesased these days without ever being given a proper chance. i see some great players in the non league game who i think could definatley be pros if given the chance

I didn't rate him at all but that's a big drop, a lot of people slowly make their way down the leagues but to drop that much speaks volumes about just how far he was from first team standard

Interesting, but if a division one or two team are not interested, then I'm afraid it looks like a good decision to release him. Wish him well though.

Frosty
As said by the manager, There are 10 teams in the league who have a bigger budget than ours, that's the main reason they have missed out on some players.
Good to see Haynes-Brown has re-signed after leaving Yeovil.

First saw him at Shrewsbury in the carling cup a few yrs back and he was dreadful that night. We commented then that you would find better right backs(the position he played that evening) in division2. Quite ludicrous that he was played as a centre half at times (Peterboro). As with anyone that leaves the club tho i wish him luck in the future and hope he works his way back up the levels(doubtful).
