Taylor in Squad for Colchester Trip
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2013 14:19

Town have confirmed that striker Paul Taylor has been included in the squad for tonight’s pre-season friendly at Colchester United (KO 7.45pm), as revealed by TWTD at the weekend. The 25-year-old has been out of action since September when he suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game after making a £1.5 million move from Peterborough United the previous month.

Boss Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Paul has trained really well. His injury is fine. He’s been pushing more than anyone else to play but it’s just been a case of making sure his rehabilitation is right and he’s ready to come back."

New central defender Christophe Berra is also in the party travelling to North Essex having trained with his new team-mates for the first time yesterday after signing a two-year deal at the end of last week.

Skipper Carlos Edwards and Trinidad and Tobago are now out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup but the 34-year-old won’t be involved this evening.

Meanwhile, Waterford United winger Jack Doherty, 18, is understood to be at the club with the formalities regarding his switch from the Irish side likely to be completed in the next day or so.

Town have sold out of their initial allocation of almost 1,500 tickets for the season opener at Reading on Saturday 3rd August. More seats will be on sale soon.

Elsewhere, Wolves midfielder Karl Henry, who is understood to be a player Mick McCarthy would have liked at Town, is on the verge of joining QPR in a £1 million deal.

I wonder what position he's being considered to play this season, maybe like Murphy with switching between the left wing and upfront?

Be Good to see the boy back in a town shirt seriously unlucky after a promising start I think the remark about his personal life are totally uncalled for and especially from a town fan! You would expect that from the budgies up the road!

I am in the strange situation again of being able to walk 10 mins up the road to attend a Town away game! (The Chicago reference was a few years back!).

Would be nice to see him get 10-15 minutes under his belt and give him the taste of action. 1,500 tickets for Reading is brilliant support. Wish i could be there to cheer us on!

I bought tickets on-line for Reading this morning. Check out http://www.awaysupporters.co.uk/reading which seems to indicate the normal allocation can be 2,100.

There will most certainly be 2,000+ ITFC fans there, possibly even 2,500, how awesome that would be!

Brother in law is a season ticket holder at Posh so saw this lad play a few times for them before [briefly] seeing him in action for us. The benefit in my mind is having a player who can take on other players in the final third, take players out the game and then, importantly, do something constructive with the ball. Welcome back Paul!

1500 tickets sold out this morning but we have just been allocated 700 more..the away end @ the Madjeski holds a start allocation of 1500 which then rises to 2100 if there is alot of interest. The away end can hold a maximum of 4100 tho...I just bought mine @ ITFCDIRECT...selling quick apparently...get on it quick if u want to see an awesome game :-)

I would hope we could take 3000 fans as its the first meaningful game for three months and pretty easy trip to make from Suffolk.

Can't wait to get going! COYB!!
