Chopra Missing from Town Squad
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2013 19:25

Striker Michael Chopra is a notable absentee from the Town squad taking on Colchester United in this evening’s friendly at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. The 29-year-old was reported to be in talks with his former loan club Barnsley yesterday, while Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones has said he could also be interested in signing his former Cardiff player.

New right-back Frederic Veseli starts, while Christophe Berra in a Town squad for the first time and is on the bench. Paul Taylor is also in the 22 but isn’t taking part in with the warm-up which is currently ongoing.

Paul Anderson is again missing, presumably due to the hamstring injury which saw him miss the Barnet game.

For first time during pre-season, there are no trialists, while Anthony Wordsworth and Dean Gerken, who is one of the subs, are up against their old club.

Town: Loach, Veseli, Chambers, Smith, Cresswell, Tabb, Skuse, Hyam, Wordsworth, Nouble, McGoldrick. Subs: Gerken, Hewitt, Murphy, Berra, Taylor, Mings, Carson, Berkane, Lawrence, Hammond, October.

Hardly breaking news as he has been missing but not missed from the Town Squad for some time now.

Oh what a pity, what a waste of time and money. I had high hopes when we signed Chopra I really thought he could make a difference .....erm........wrong!

Presumably a deal to get rid is close or MM is providing an incentive for Chopra to consider moving on!

Either way we wont see him in a Town shirt again.

I think its sad. In my opinion he's still a quality player who WILL score the goals if he gets the service. BUT, in mick we trust!

He'll go to another club, bang them in for a few weeks then go off the radar and show why he has all that baggage. Sooner he goes the better.

Sindre I agree with you!!! he's still more than able of scoring goals at this level if provided with the service. proves to be disruptive tho

Sindre - I think the majority of the fans on here will agree with you - he has been a proven goalscorer (in the past) ... BUT on a reported £18k per week, he simply hasn't done enough and has been given plenty of opportunity. Furthermore, he has proved to be very disruptive and his run in with fans on Twitter simply can not be excused. MM wants triers and those with a good influence. Sadly, Chopra has made his bed.

We should've seen the warning signs how can a play be worth almost £5mill one season then less than £1mill the next

Chopra was seen in bury St Edmunds tonight with a flower pot full of 2p coins playing the slots muttering something about hitting it big

get rid ASAP, we've got an exiting squad for this coming season (most optimistic I've been since JR) Chopra has NO place in it!!!!!!!!

When Chopra does eventually leave id love to be there and shove a pigs head up his swiss roll,im sure it would fit ,ive never hated a Town player so much ,he may as well go and play for the budgies as he will always be scum ,a thief to the clubs rescources

I worry about some of you anti- Micheal Chopra people.. we all know why that maybe so. But is worth posting such cowardice coments to a town player, all be it he could be moving on

Jas, I agree. Hes not really lived up to the (massive) expectations we had to him, not even close. I think its fair that he moves on, but I dont think hes such a hopeless player as some makes it sound like. Well, well.
Anyway, how did tayls do tonight?

Sindre, he may not be a hopeless player but I think his time here is up, living in optimism that he will come good this season is not enough for me I'm afraid, I know he's been reasonably quiet in pre season but maybe MM and TC 'had a little word with him somewhere down a lonely alley!'

PJneedsDuncan, good question about his transfer value and I certainly think some of it can be attributed to his performances in the season before we took him but I've also got a feeling that Cardiff were having a few money troubles back then.

I think the fact that chopra came to a team in decline, no service and little optimism that things were going to get better? This didn't help his cause bearing in mind the off field problems he had. Best for all he goes including him.
