Chopra Linked With Blackpool Move
Wednesday, 24th Jul 2013 10:20

Town striker Michael Chopra is reportedly set to sign for Blackpool. The 29-year-old, previously mentioned in connection with Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, was missing from last night’s squad for the friendly at Colchester with manager Mick McCarthy confirming that he was in talks with a club.

The Blues boss, who made the former Cardiff man available for transfer at the end of the season, said: “He’s talking to clubs. Talking to a club."

McCarthy wouldn’t confirm who the club involved were: “I wouldn’t disclose what he’s doing, he’s talking to a club.”

The ex-Newcastle and Sunderland striker is understood to be on £18,000 a week at Town, a wage he is unlikely to be offered anywhere else and the Blues will almost certainly have to negotiate a settlement of the remaining year of his contract.

Let's just hope the story is true this time, after all the press speculation reporting as fact that he was going to Cardiff.

If confirmed, I think we will all be relieved that another sad and very expensive chapter of our recent history has come to an end, meaning that we can all move on, and start getting behind the genuine and hungry players who do want to play for this club

All the best Michael, sorry it didn't work out for you. Addiction is one of the cruelest afflictions to mankind.

Thank god, ITFC done so much for him and he just shoves it back in our face with his stupid comments. Go and rot in Blackpool.

Wish him well, a few little incidents tarnished his reputation here, so I think its best for both parties to move on and look to the future. No need for insults, we're better than that.

Been a long time since i've been this excited about the season ahead for Town. My only worry is where the majority of goals will come from. Our attacking options in midfield will no doubt help, but we don't have a 20 goal a season striker in our ranks.

I have every faith that McGoldrick will be good for us, and that Murphy andNouble will be great strike partners for him. Maybe Taylor will score a hat full? But i think he'll create rather than be an oit and out scorer.

Just imagine our side with a 20+ goal getter in the side! A Sharp type or whatever to help get us that extra mile...

Not a pop at anyone, just an opinion

Well said Lukeybluey, couldn't agree more.

Chops started well but failed to show his true ability on a regular basis. He was extremely foolish to get involved with fans on twitter, possibly his biggest mistake which I hope he doesn't repeat wherever he goes next..

Thinga are looking good for this season but I would caution everyone not to get too carried away or raise expectations too high. It is avery long season and super tough league

ThatMurhrenCross - I agree with you regards the addiction.

I do think it is some of the other recurrant behaviour, such as the flaunting of the bag of cash that has really got to many supporters and which has developed into a real issue between him and the fans

The only reason he's going up there is to gamble his wages away on the penny slots!!!

How many of you are gonna turn round and say we shouldnt have got rid of him if he scores goals for fun?! Was the same with scotland too. Chops was and still is a town player and some of the personal abuse and hatred is disgusting. He is a proven goal scorer at this level!!! Anyway onwards and upwards, i do trust mcarthys judgement COYB!!!

Why is he a scumbag rat? Why is he subjected to this sort of stuff. Surely he's a human being, with feelings and failings like the rest of us? I really don't understand why football "fans" think it's ok to say whatever they like about whoever they like based on nothing more than what they think they know.

Well said Lukeybluey and Suttonblueboy. Insulting him will only fire him up even more when he plays against us. There's far too much energy being wasted by our club and our fans still dealing with the man and his problems. Let's leave Mr Chopra alone and look to the future.

I'm sorry but i won't be wishing him any luck on his way out of the club. We gave him so much help and support and he threw it back in the clubs face. I will admit that he probably scored one of the most important goals of the season last year with that 90th minute winner at Bolton, but it's the only big contribution he gave us in 2 years. Just think this is the last bad bit of the Keane/Jewell era to finally go now and we can all move on.

Well put LukeyBluey. Best for everybody.
Chops departure marks end of big name +/or expensive signings under RK and PJ. MM has got his side in place now.... over to you Mick, believe you can (continue to) do it.

truthhurts, I agree completely. The team is looking excellent on paper, but we don't yet have that 20 goal a season player IMO. The service for the strikers will undoubtedly be better this season and I am a fan of Murphy in terms of what he brings to the team, Taylor has definitely got goals in him and McGoldrick is a real handful, but I hope I'm proved wrong, but can't see any of them pushing past 15 goals next season. Has Mick got one final ace up his sleeve...?

I agree truthhurts, I feel we need that 20+ striker that may be yet to come. As we've only spent 50,000 this window, so there must be some left over for Mick to add someone to the sqaud. Now that Chopra has gone who was supposed to be our '20+ goalscorer' I think we could yet see another striker come in. If this happens, this season is looking very promising.

Where's the Blackpool link come from? These are all old quotes...

Would be a good move for everyone concerned though!

I'm sorry but you just can't say all this hate to someone we are all human ... I know we are all frustrated at him we know he has done a lot of mistakes and maybe he doesn't learn from them, this is a public website ,mr chopra could see this at anytime how would you feel if you we're in his shoes ? I know some of you will say he brought it on to himself thats true, but what happens if he is trying start from scratch trying to stop his gambling etc , but I'm glad to see him go to another club it lets him start from scratch, but I wonder who mick has up to replace him ? And as well I have a good feeling about this season we have a really good team really good manager and staff and I'm sick of getting taking the mic out of by my friends from my school. As ipswich are not in the BBL .... Just you wait

I disagree with people saying we need a 20 goal man. We dont. Look at cardiff and hull. To get put of this league you need a solid spine and to share the goals around. Which i think.we are capable of doing. Anyway good riddance chops. Cant say im sad to see you go

Guru_of_Ipswich added 12:07 - Jul 24
yes addiction is awful and i have every sympathy, but it wasn't his addiction constantly making an idiot of himself on twitter and abusing us the ITFC fans!

This club has bent over backwards for him, and he has basically thrown our goodwill in the gutter laughing while he does it! I for one can't wait to get rid of the prat.

Plus this 'he is a 20 goal a season' striker, when was the last time he hit 20 goals? he should be described as 'used to be a 20 goal a season striker until he took his eye of the ball'!

The guy has done nothing to endear himself to town fans. If he had given 100% but it just hadn't worked out on the pitch I think most of us would be willing to accept that and wish him well. But he hasn't and all the other ridicuous goings on with him have left a bitter taste, especially as we will probably be paying off part or all of yet another contract. We'll probably write off his debt to the club cos we're nice like that. The addiction I sympathise with it's the apparent lack of respect for the people who pay his wages that I can't get my head around. This should have been a good move for him, a fresh start and a chance to revive his career. I was excited when he joined cos he's a talented player but he's been a complete let down and i'll be glad when he leaves now.

jimmy86..... He WAS a proven goal scorer at this level... he ain't anymore. I will be very surprised if he scores goals elsewhere, as he won't put the required effort in !!!

Good riddance Chops
