Chopra Glad to Be Where He's Wanted
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 17:28

Former Blues striker Michael Chopra says he’s glad to be at a club where he’s wanted, having joined Blackpool from Town earlier in the week. The 29-year-old has signed a one-year deal with an option for another season.

Chopra told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm at a club where I'm wanted. It's nice to be wanted again.

"The manager is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.”

The former Cardiff, Sunderland and Newcastle man says his well-documented problems with gambling will always be the subject of discussion: "No matter what I do, it's always going to be in the spotlight.

"It's down to me to do well on the pitch. If I'd been scoring on a regular basis for Ipswich, nobody would talk about it. It's down to myself to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"With the gambling, I still go to meetings and that's an ongoing process. The main thing for me is that I'm at a football club where I'm going to be playing and I'm made to feel welcome and wanted.”

He says he expects to receive good service while with the Seasiders: "You've got Thomas Ince and also Matty Phillips to come back when he's fit.

"The manager [Paul Ince] is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.

"When you're playing with good players, you know you'll get a lot of chances to score goals. I believe that if I get the chances, I will score goals. I've done that all my life."

Oh dear. Chopra needs to learn that sometimes less is more. No need to say anything at all about being wanted, because if he performs badly on the pitch or does stupid things off it again he will no longer be wanted at Blackpool either

Just move on Chopra and keep your mouth shut. Maybe if you done that here it might have been different for you.

what would you expect him to say? " b****cks to this I need games and Blackpool are the only side who will touch me as they prepare for a return to league one"...on a one year deal, which says to me..we can get rid if hes not doing it..very sensible!

Chopra has always been his own worst enemy but I hope for his sake he continues to be wanted by Blackpool and does well there and becomes settled, that may help him mature into an ordinary bloke.

Good luck Chops especially with your addiction(s). Still has some growing up to do by the sound of it but has the opportunity to rediscover his talents.

It is remarkable that this individual can behave in such a juvenile way. He really is poorly advised.

The man just needs to keep quiet sometimes.

Do what you are paid for, put the effort in and show a good attitude then you'll always be wanted by your club.

If you had kept your mouth shut you would have been wanted here. Goodbye.

Although I sincerely wish Chopra well dealing with his personal problems, yet again this type of thing reminds me how lucky we are that he has finally left ITFC. The way to make yourself 'wanted' is to work hard, set a good example and get on with the fans - not fight with and wind people up on Twitter.

Personally I am glad he has gone and feel we should all move on - which means TWTD also not printing anything further from Chopra. Best for everyone.

Chopra just keeps on proving he hasn't got a single brain cell with the crap he says,we have a great hard working honest squad here now and have no passengers anymore, enjoy all them one armed bandits chopra and blame someone else when your putting your last 5p into one looking for the jackpot, just remember that if it wasn't for ITFC the heavies would have given you two broken legs so you should be greatfull to this club and its supporters COYB

Gotta say in some ways I do feel sorry for chops. bearing in mind he cant be anymore than 5 ft10 he was somewhat strangely played as a lone striker under the clueless Jewell and often found himself coming back to collect the ball. He did not recieve the right service and had to create many chances for himself!!! and he still scored 14 goals in a struggling team. People forget he scored some important goals and whilst he didnt help himself with regards to his off field problems, most notably his on going twitter arguments with fans, he was still a town player. hopefully wont end up biting us in the ass!!

To be fair to Chopra he joined a very poor team and got very little service in the time he was here. Even Van Persie would of struggled! Things were also not right in his Private? life and he does not have the character to fight against problems and help the team. It could of been so different. Mick Mcarthys biggest strength is seeing players character and building a strong group of players. Possibly why chops and maybe jet have gone.
