Blues Weighing Up Lee Contract
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 20:22

TWTD understands that boss Mick McCarthy is giving serious consideration to offering former striker Alan Lee a contract for the season ahead. Lee, 34, returned to the club earlier in the summer to begin coaching in the academy, but as reported this morning has been training with the first team this week.

Former Ireland international Lee was released by Championship Huddersfield Town at the end of last season after three years with the Terriers.

The Blues still have four frontline strikers despite having off-loaded Michael Chopra this week — David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy, Frank Nouble and Paul Taylor — and we understand Lee is viewed as an additional option as cover or as an impact substitute.

The 6ft 2in tall frontman started his career with Aston Villa and spent time on loan with Torquay and Port Vale while with the Villans.

Galway-born Lee subsequently moved on to Burnley, Rotherham and Cardiff before joining the Blues for a fee £100,000 in January 2006. The striker, who is based at Dedham, went on to make 96 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 34 goals, prior to moving on to Crystal Palace in August 2008.

While with the Eagles he spent a short spell on loan at Norwich City towards the end of the 2008/09 relegation season.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Bilel Mohsni has signed a two-year deal with Rangers, having left Southend at the end of last season.

Didn't see that coming!

Not the worst idea I've heard but a very short term option.

no, no and definately NO!!!!! playing for norwich was bad enough, but to then turn round and say he would celebrate if he scored against us was unforgiveable!!!! all hell would have broke loose!!! as it happens that evening Pim got home and found him still in his pocket!!

Really this sounds rather strange to me but hey I think we still need a fox in the box type player someone I thought Chopra would be now we have one if not two out and out wingers we should supply more quality in to the box therefore we need a real sniffer in there which I'm not sure we have in our squad currently!

I'm not sure what he could offer us that Daryl Murphy can't already do.

Makes sense.
If he's going to be coaching the Yoofs then having him fit and able is common sense.

Why not.

Without Alan Lee's goals we would probably have been relegated. He always gave everything and was a great crowd favourite. As the article says he would be used as cover or an impact player. We are paying him as a coach so he might as well be registered to play if needed. The small minded few who object because he played (on loan!) for Norwich really need to grow up. The man is entitled to earn a living and we had already dispensed with his services.

what could he possibly offer?? we have a younger more mobile option in murphy, who by all accounts has been bang in form during pre season. They say never go back!!!

What can he offer that Murphy can't? Cover for Murphy when he's injured or suspended.

This is strange, but I think he still could do a job!!!

Heart says yes, head says no. Wouldn't be the worst backup in the world, and no doubt on a tiny wage.

Got to be an early April Fools day joke ? I hope Marriott sees the funny side and won't end up being shipped out like Rhodes was

would certainly divide the fanbase thats for sure. yes he could probably still do a job as back up or an impact sub, but there are many other fans that would struggle to welcome him back with open arms. due to the whole norwich thing, he has recieved stick ever since that day.
