Anderson and Skuse Start at Notts County
Saturday, 27th Jul 2013 14:07

Paul Anderson and Cole Skuse are both included in the Town side taking on Notts County at Meadow Lane in this afternoon’s final pre-season friendly (KO 3pm). The former Nottingham Forest man has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, while Skuse was subbed with a knee injury at Colchester on Tuesday.

New loan signing Ryan Tunnicliffe is included in the Town squad following his move from Manchester United, while striker Paul Taylor is again involved after making his return after 10 months out with a foot injury at Colchester on Tuesday.

The most senior player missing from the squad is skipper Carlos Edwards, who was "chilling" in Trinidad earlier in the week, according to manager Mick McCarthy, after the Gold Cup in the US and is due back over the weekend. Josh Carson is also absent.

Ex-Blue Danny Haynes and former loanee Bartosz Bialkowski are in Chris Kiwomya's Notts County side, while ex-Town striker Ronan Murray and former U18s captain Callum Bennett are on their bench.

Town: Loach, Hewitt, Chambers, Smith, Cresswell, Anderson, Hyam, Skuse, Tabb, Murphy, McGoldrick. Subs: Gerken, Veseli, Berra, Mings, Wordsworth, Tunnicliffe, Taylor, Nouble, Hammond, Berkane, October.

It's good to be feeling optimistic a week before the season starts. No injuries lads.

What a super strong looking side at last! With what we have available now it should be a cracking season .

That would be my first XI. Although I quite like the sound of moving Anderson to the left wing and playing Taylor on the right with his tricks and pace.

I like the look of this team. Hopefully we can take a fully fit team to Reading next week without any injury concerns. I'd like to see Taylor play in a free role behind the strikers too, think he could be really creative there.

The best thing about this squad is that we have equally strong players in the reserves. We could field a team of reserves that would be as good with the exception of McGoldrick. He is the only player where you'd think "bu@@er" if he had to be replaced for anything except the last 20 minutes of the game. Possibly Berra may be a bit of a gamble seeing the comments on other fan sites, but I have faith in Mick that he knows his capabilities best.

So, are Hammond and Berkane in front of Carson in the pecking order on the flanks? Or is Carson going out on a loan? And where's Doherty?

This too would be my starting 11, and I'm glad to see Skuse starting after he picked up a knock. Is this our last friendly with our strongest side out? If so, lets end it with another win lads. COYB

Think Doherty will be a youth player initially, can't see him getting a lot of game time this season.

Nouble as a pacey impact player from the bench.

I imagine Taylor will get himself into the starting eleven soon enough, too good to be on the bench.

Looking at that squad it feels like we've got our football team back, all but one being our own players. No more days of being used as a shop window for loanees.

Injuries allowing i would say the starting XI today will start at Reading. Looks a good solid side. Would like another striking option myself but if MM is happy so am i .

A good chance that this will be the starting eleven next week I would have thought? A strong looking bench as well.

2-0 to Town. Anyone listening to BBC radio Suffolk would have heard Phil tell us that Hyam and Murphy have both scored, while Cresswell has left the pitch limping after 9 minutes with a thigh injury.

Awesome pre season so far just a tad worried that we haven't really had any challenging fixtures e.g. Our own league or above!

My only concern going into this year is cover at left back. If Cresswell goes down we have very little cover. Mings is untested and unproven. I'm very concerned - hopefully Cresswell is iron man again this year.

I am not worried about another body up top. The four we have are good enough.
