Return to Adidas Temporary Monday, 5th Aug 2013 10:41
There was an echo of Town in the 1970s and 80s after Saturday’s game with the Blues squad and staff spotted wearing Adidas benchwear rather than their usual Mitre kit.
Club spokesman Steve Pearce told TWTD that the switch to the manufacturer of the kit Sir Bobby Robson’s FA and UEFA Cup-winning sides wore is a temporary measure while Town await the delivery of some of this season’s new benchwear: “Unfortunately due to a delay with one of their suppliers, Mitre have been unable to deliver some of the training kit for the players and coaching staff for the new season.
“Mitre have sourced alternative benchwear for the first team on a temporary basis before the staff and players return to wearing Mitre kit when the final delivery is received in the next few weeks.”
Mitre’s contract with the Blues is up at the end of the season and we understand discussions have already taken place with potential new suppliers including Nike.

Let's hope we get a good deal with Adidas, it's about time. We are off to bigger things again and need to dress for success. I guess Nike will also do.
Would be good to see someone like Adidas producing the kit next season. Granted, Mitre have made us some good kits and the quality has been good, but screen-printing the badge and Mitre logo this season smacks of cost-cutting.
I think the new home shirt looks great and I was set to buy one for the first time in years until I saw it up close and realised the badges are all transfers and all in all it feels pretty cheap.
Totally agree with NSL. Saw the kit for the first time up-close at Reading being worn by other fans and the cheap looking transfer style badge has put me off, so I won't be buying it.
This appears to be the first season that the kits have had this cheap look... do we know why? Was an embroidered badge too expensive?
I'm not spending £45 on what is effectively a blue and white t-shirt with stickers on.
The sooner we break away from Mitre the better. Their kits have been poor in my opinion, both in design and quality. They don't last long and look a bit cheap.
The printed badge on this season's shirt stopped me buying an otherwise decent looking shirt (I've been waiting years for the white sleeves to return). Not paying £45 for that, especially as they only last one season.
Nike or Adidas as kit suppliers would be very welcome here. Even if we get basic teamwear kit desgns, it will be a step-up in quality from Mitre's offerings.
Might be a temporary measure but indicates what kit will definitely be worn next season I reckon, these deals are done at least a season in advance. Hardly likely to wear Adidas if Nike were going to be the supplier.
Great choice as well because if you see the Club shops or any other outlet where Adidas is the supplier the layouts and displays are great, not like the amateur offering the Club shop manager puts out at the moment.
I wouldn't care if the official team shirt was made from paper with a child's drawing of the badge I am still proud to wear it and will be wearing it on Saturday against millwall..
i must admit regardless of quality and style and cost , i buy both , even considering buying the goalies shirt , but does to me seem too close to a Norwich shirt for my liking if you don't see the badge.
In addition to my earlier comment I think the Town should throw the design of the next home kit on to the fans. I know there will be some crappy designs, mine for instance; but as with the badge designed by a fan; there could be a really good one out there. It would also involve the fans more and it's acceptance be better with the fanbase. Just an idea, but I'd have a go. Winning kit wins a season ticket. COYB.
For me, Adidas have made the best football stash consistently since way back in the 70s. Their designs have the classic appeal, whereas someone like Nike is all brash and bold. As someone who's been involved in ordering foootball kit for my team on several occasions, I'm big in favour of Adidas kit for quality as well as style.
Apparently we're moving away from Mitre for next year (eread it in a story a while back?) I'd be totally made up if we moved to Adidas! Do a great job e.g., Chelsea, West brom, Bayern but also for smaller teams like Swindon or Bristol city
Expect Marcus will go for the cheapest option, having cut players salaries, and seemingly given Mick McCarthy a transfer budget similar to that given to Jackie Milburn 50 years ago!
