Hyam Signs New Deal
Tuesday, 20th Aug 2013 13:07

Midfielder Luke Hyam has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2016. TWTD revealed that the 21-year-old had been offered new terms in May with discussions having continued throughout the summer.

The former Northgate High School pupil told the club site: “Obviously I’m delighted. Everyone knows this is my hometown club and I want to stay here as long as possible.

“I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and I feel like I am progressing as a player, although I know I have a long, long way to go yet.

“It’s a massive boost for me that the manager has given me this new contract and I just want to keep working hard and play my part in moving Ipswich Town forward.”

Really pleased about this.

Luke now needs to continue to work hard and learn from the management team to develop and improve on various aspects of his game, to move himself on to the next level and fulfill his undoubted talent at Town

Hopefully he can progress and become the player we all want him to be. Good luck Luke.

If he can sign another 3 or 4 year deal in 2015 he could become a testimonial player (as could Smith). It's been a while since that happened.

Well deserved ,now relax and attack the box .

It's good to see that we are finally starting to secure some of our players with decent length contracts rather than continually losing them on free transfers. Hyam deserves this for the performances he put in last season.

Great news! If he can add to his attacking side of the game and become more box to box then he could be one of the best CM's in the league in the next couple of years. Nice to see we're getting our young players like Smith and Hyam tied down long term.

If he learnt to become more attacking then he could be a top player.

I like Hyam. I'm not sure he will develop the attacking side to his game as surely the signs of that would already be there ? I think he could learn a ton from Skuse and if Mick changes tactics (by playing Tabb/Wordsworth behind the front 2 ... especially at home ?) he might even have to settle for a spell on the bench.

Pleased for any player to be offered a contract.

Keep progressing, i'm a better player now at 33 than I was at 21 (although i've lost a bit of pace and fitness!)

Luke has gone out there and earn't this contract - that is why this is such great news. This is not simply a case of a Manager bowing to fan pressure to keep the 'good local lad' in the squad. We have every right to be proud of our academy, long may stories like this continue (even more so with our move to Cat. 1!)

Great news!
Last season he was a big factor in us keeping in this league and hopefully this season will be a factor in us getting out of this league(into the premier).
With the guidance of Mick he can be a stand out player.
Onwards & Upwards!

Sorry can't get too excited about this one. Sorry to upset the Home Grown element amongst you, but Hyam is an average player, a good League 1 player, nothing more. We need better than this to progress. Does seem to reflect MM's footballing philosophy, unimaginative type of player that will keep an game tight

Good to see MM having faith in the youngsters, contract extensions will definitely help with confidence. Hopefully Luke will do a bit of training in front of the goal, Saturday he looked liked a startled rabbit when the ball came to him in the box!

Start pulling the trigger lukey!
Start making some more penetrating passes.

These two things will make you complete.

i cant believe the club have allowed this...fancy tying one of our brightest prospects to the club for another three years! he must be on 400 quid a week now....disgraceful!!

Very good news. Hyam is a young player who will hopefully get better. Still concerned that both he and Skuse are too similar in central midfield - but Hyam is a good player and deserves a place in the team.
