Mings Closing in On Return
Wednesday, 28th Aug 2013 15:03

Defender Tyrone Mings is hoping to be back in action after the international break which follows Saturday’s trip to Birmingham. The 20-year-old, who penned a new two-year deal yesterday, injured a medial knee ligament in the opening day defeat at Reading.

Mings told the club site: “At the time I didn’t have a clue how serious the injury was and I remember telling the physio that I’ll run it off!

“Obviously at that point I had no idea that I had a slight tear in my medial ligament and I ended up playing on it for around 70 minutes against Reading.

“I’ve started rehab now though and I’m aiming for around 14th September to be back fit, as I imagine I will still need around two or three weeks before I’m back to full match fitness.”

After the international break, the Blues face Tony Mowbray’s Middlesbrough on the Saturday and newly-promoted Yeovil Town on the Tuesday, both at home.

The game at the Madejski Stadium was Mings’s second senior appearance for Town, his debut having come at Burnley on the final day of last season.

Lots of focus on Mings these days. Certainly a bright prospect and will make a good replacement for Cresswell.

Team for Birmingham

Loach
Hewitt, Smith, Chambers, Cresswell or Mings (if Cress is gone)
Edwards, Hyam, Skuse, Tabb
McColdrick, Murphy

We are a bit predictable aren't we. Must be easy for other teams to plan against us.

How on earth Carlos still gets in the starting 11 is beyond me?! Being captain just doesn't cut it if i'm honest.
Hyam & Skuse are far too similar, so for me they cannot play together. Tabb just isn't a left winger as much as Carlos isn't a right winger. It's time Taylor got given a chance & for that matter drop that lazy B Murphy & give Nouble a go. can't keep relying on the same 11 that just aren't performing.
The signing of Anderson just seems bemusing to me, honestly if he isn't deemed good enough to get in ahead of Carlos i'd consider my future in the game.
I really hope Cresswell goes (as much as i love him) we seriously need to free up money to bring in fresh players.. We're in desperate need.
Where on earth has Jack Doherty disappeared to? Hell throw him in.. Can be no worse than what we have.

MM said he'll make changes so think it won't be as predictable as that.
Is Edwards the new whipping boy now Martin has left? I think so and maybe rightly so given his start to the season but we seem to need a scape goat at PR.

Very nervous going into Saturdays game. Would love a loan signing or two to lift the mood!

MM says he'll make some changes, but I doubt they will be dramatic.

Does he change the keeper? Probably not. It would be counter productive to drop Loach. Better to boost his confidence to overcome mistakes which even the best keepers can make.

He'll have to make his mind up on either Hyam or Skuse. Skuse should get the nod. That leaves the possibility of Wordsworth, at least at some stage of the game (remember all those wasted corners we had on Saturday).

Who will partner McColdick up front? Taylor deserves a start.

Edwards may have stay to help Hewitt while he continues to grow in stature.

The other matter is signings or loans. The solid defence of last season was very dependent upon the experience and quality of Stearman, but MM was unable to get him. I don't think Murphy worries Premiership defences like, say, a Billy Sharp would. There must be other options in these two departments that MM will have his eye on. A lot of which will depend upon Cresswell's future.

Completely agree with itfckieren and oldelsworthyfan.

Good, decent comments. How Edwards still gets in the team is beyond me + a decision needs to be made of who plays out of either Hyam or Skuse l, you can't have both.

With Berra now joined I'd personally play a 3-5-2 with the pace of Hewitt and Cresswell as wing backs. Would be penetrating than the 'perhaps' of an attack from Edwards.
I still remember that quote I think just before the season by Edwards, of maybe being awarded a new contract next summer...'...if I score 20 goals this season maybe they'll give me a new contract'

Classic! And some hope
