Anderson Coming to Terms With New Role
Tuesday, 17th Sep 2013 06:03

Town new signing Paul Anderson admits he is still coming to terms with the new role he has been designated by boss Mick McCarthy.

The former Bristol City winger explained: “The gaffer likes me to be narrower than what I’ve ever known before, so even though you could say I’m in the same position it’s something I am still learning because it’s a different job.

“That’s been difficult for me in the first couple of games but we’ve spoken about it. They’re very good here at communicating with the players, telling you exactly what they want. Whatever job he wants me to do I’ll do.

“I’m learning it and hopefully in the next couple of games I’ll have got it down to a T and I’ll know exactly what my position is.”

But McCarthy, who signed wingers like Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis for previous club Wolves, is certainly not discouraging Anderson from the sort of attacking wing-play from which strikers like David McGoldrick would surely benefit.

He added: “When we’ve got the ball he says to be my own player and do exactly what I want. But he loves the defensive side of the game and of course he was a defender when he played.

“I understand that and it normally comes into how managers want their team to play. You usually end up playing their style of game but it’s working and the lads are loving working for him.”

Spivvy, Try reading the words out loud — you might then understand the article.

Start with ..... (MM).... 'is certainly not discouraging Anderson from the sort of attacking wing-play....' and ....“When we've got the ball he says to be my own player and do exactly what I want. But he loves the defensive side of the game…” etc

Anderson is making excuses for a poor performance on Saturday, wide or narrow I can't see him making the grade. He lacks pace and can't go past players.

Give him a chance. He was better against boro and is still finding his way into the side.

He does have good pace and is not afraid to take on the full back but he needs to learn our style of play to make good use of those assets.

I think Anderson will prove to be a good solid, reliable player for us. Give him time!

Good grief, give the lad some time people! His first start at home and people are already slagging him off. We are supposed to be "supporters". Think Anderson will turn into a good player for us.

Leave him alone, he'll come good. He has talent and will learn fairly quickly to adapt to the new role. Those that are bemoaning him have obviously never played football. LEAVE HIM ALONE.

Anderson must understand that unless you perform like Messi you aint gonna please some people on here. I have never heard any thing like it ! He has already shown glimpses of what he can do , think given a few more games we will see a very good player emerging. Definitely good business swapping JET with him well done mm.

@PeterMorris

"“The gaffer likes me to be narrower than what I've ever known before, so even though you could say I'm in the same position it's something I am still learning because it's a different job. That's been difficult for me in the first couple of games but we've spoken about it"

Mick is asking a wide wing player to come narrow and he is suffering as a result..........unless you wish to argue with the words that are coming straight from the players mouth??

Perhaps you might try reading again..........div.
