McGoldrick: TC a Top Finishing Coach
Monday, 30th Sep 2013 06:00

Striker David McGoldrick paid tribute to assistant boss Terry Connor after he scored both Town’s goals in Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Brighton.

McGoldrick says Connor works all the frontmen hard: “TC gets you out in the morning before the rest of the midfielders and defenders and has us working on finishing for an hour.

“It’s not just shoot, shoot, shoot; there are so many drills. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into his sessions.

“It’s paying off because my second goal today was straight off the training field. This week he had us running at a mannequin and firing off shots as soon as you’re past it. He’s one of the best finishing coaches I’ve worked with and that’s shown today.”

The 25-year-old, who joined the Blues on a Bosman free transfer in the summer from Nottingham Forest after a loan spell last season, is happy with life at Portman Road.

“It’s a great feeling when you hear the fans singing your name and I just love repaying them with goals. It’s been a great first few months for me here and I’m really enjoying my football.

“The gaffer is great with me. He’s done some personal things for me which I can’t really say, while I get a lot of love off TC as well.

“They treat you as a man. They respect you and you respect them back. I’ve got so much time for them.

“If someone treats me as a man then I want to work as hard as I possibly can to repay that. I work my socks off for them on the pitch.

“In the morning they shake your hand and look you in the eye. When they ask ‘How are you?’ you know it’s genuine. You just want to work for them.”

Portman Road's gambling fraternity will have been doubly delighted by McGoldrick's goals in Saturday's victory, judging by the on concourse bookies running short of cash to pay out on winning bets.

McGoldrick scoring first in 2-0 win was 33/1, while the striker netting the opening goals - as he had done in two of Town's previous three home games - was 4/1.

Lots of evidence in both these top stories that for the first time in a number of years ITFC has a management that is MANAGING, that knows what it is doing, and coaches who are coaching. I'm looking forward to the rest of this season!

- cue: the Barry White CD, mood lighting and leopard skin pants.

"My first, my last, my everything
And the answer to all my dreams
You're my sun, my moon, my guiding star
My kind of wonderful, that's what you are"

That's our "Barry" McGoldric, baby.
